Just a hunch, but something tells me there's more to the story. Hell, the ink wasn't dry on the contract he signed.
I don't think he signed a contract. Don't think there's anything more to the story other than him just not being suited for the NFL as a QB.
He signed but was waived. Waiver drops and adds will be very frequent over training camp. One of their DL tore ACL and they needed room to add another. They also cut Ryan Baker to add at another position.
On another note--Jarrett Lee had signed with the San Diego Chargers and REMAINS WITH THE TEAM!!!!!!Hopefully Jacob Hester has touched base with him.
To keep that in perspective, JJ went to rookie mini camp and signed. Went home and was waived before another practice. Chargers camp just started for Lee and other rookies.
But why should we try to keep it in perspective? It's become a favorite hobby for LSU fans to hate JJ and love JL. As someone pointed out several months ago, the best thing that ever happened to JL was not playing on 1/9 and becoming a folk hero in the process.
Both were limited QBs, and objective fans readily admit this. The primary difference between them was something completely within both their control: their attitude. Jefferson came off whiny and acted like he was a victim of circumstance in the Shady's incident. This was a distraction that could have derailed an entire season, yet he seemed more interested in "moving forward" than acting like a leader and accepting responsibility. In his post-1/9 interviews he continually talked about the team's performance as if he were a 3rd string WR removed from the action, instead of one of the players primarily responsible for it, even going so far as to say he thought he "played well". Scott van Pelt evidently thought this was ridiculous enough to devote time on national radio to call him on it. Lee, on the other hand, had numerous opportunities to take shots at Les and the coaching staff and hasn't, and he has conducted himself as a class act throughout his college career. Sure, you have plenty of ranter idiots who would've trashed Jefferson following 1/9 regardless of how he carried himself in public. But among more rational fans a less petulant attitude would've done wonders for Jefferson's support level.
That is the thing it is ironic because Lee had the same issues his senior year with attitude after skipping class because of a event that he thought was worthy of missing classes. Lee was just more generic and closed about his situation, JJ's information was readily availble to the public unlike Lee's. Both were not good QBs and needed attitude adjustments.
I don't doubt any of that. There were other players besides them that also needed an attitude adjustment. For all I know JJ might have been cool with everyone in the locker room and JL was a pariah. My point was about public perception, and as such all fans have to go by is how they conduct themselves in public in response to problems on and off the field, not necessarily the incidents themselves.
