I think so and It depends on whether we are competitive or not. Bama and Florida have recruited even better than LSU recently and Georgia and Tennessee not far behind. We can't just look at LSU and sat "10 wins minimum" when we play in a league this competitive. Do you think Saban or Meyer would be fired after 8 and 9 win seasons? LSU once went to the SECCG with 3 SEC losses!

Yep and I think Les knows better than we do where the problems lay last year. He didn't fire Crowton or Studrawa, so my guess is that Les thinks it was the quarterback. It's Les' ass on the line, not ours, so I expect that he is doing what he thinks will get us winning. Firing Crowton does not guarantee that we'll get someone better.

My fear here is the old fable of the dog and the bone. In search of the mythical perfect coach, we could get another string of lousy coaches as in the 90's instead of a solid program under Les that lives pretty much in the top ten and competes for the SECCG regularly. It's really all that a top program can ask for in these days of scholarship parity in a tough league like the SEC.

I have to agree with you all, we did see improvement last season, especially with the defense. Special teams did really well also. I think what our quarterbacks, or qb whichever one it may be, need is a running game first and foremost. It will take tons of pressure off the qb. Hell Jarret Lee had really impressive numbers in 08 with the exception of the int's, because Quinn Johnson, and Big Herm were there creating holes for Scott, Williams, Murphy and company. So now you have a qb who protects the football, a vicious ground attack, and a legitimate shot at Atlanta. Mistakes on the sidelines and in the booth need to kept to a minimum. Damn is it August yet?

Yea, from what I heard, the running game looked very good in the spring game from a number of backs. Though, I do not know how much you can take from the spring game, it sounds good and I am sure it will help JJ out.

IF I were a betting man, i would be betting on this season, most likely 2011 season, on LSU taking it to the hole. Lets hope it all works out.

Your right, and its not that 10 is the magic number, it is more of the way we struggles to get those 8 -9 and how the team looked.

Plug one hole and a new one opens up.

Hopefully all holes are plugged now.......

The word I'm hearing on the street is that as long as Miles wins 7 games in a season, an additional year is added onto the end of his contract. Maybe I misinterpreted this information, and please correct me if I'm wrong. Seems they were desperate to hold the ship together during the NC run and keep Miles away from Michigan. Skip threw the kitchen sink at him and now LSU is stuck. Thanks to our friend Skip, we are locked in to the good, the bad, and the ugly of Les Miles. Now, because of Miles' Spike call, Bertman, JaMarcus, Perriloux, Crowton, and the booing of Lee, Miles may never get the kind of QB that LSU needs or deserves. What 5 star slinger is going to come here unless he grows up a tiger. Oliver? Broadway?..........doubt they can pull us back up.

It's a viscous cycle that is going to drag us down till we are back at the bottom of the SEC. Fans will stop paying the exobitant prices and the TAF donations this program thrives on, will dwindle. Hopefully, some group of deep pockets will write a check, and we'll start this all over.

Sorry to be a Negatiger, but I've been in this little town now for 30 years and watched the up and down swings of the program. We were on a solid upswing when Saban beat Tenn in the SECCG. Miles held it together thanks to Pelini and Saban's players. Those folks are gone now and I pray there is someone within the program that can step up and get it right, whether it's Miles, Aleva, Gonzales, Wilson or another.

Apologize for the ramblings.......long time reader, first time poster

At this link is Les Miles current contract:
    http://i.usatoday.net/sports/graphics/2009/coaches-contracts/pdf/miles_lsu.pdf

In the section "Clarification of Employment Agreement", it states:

    A. Winning eight or more games in a season presumptively will be the basis for a one year term extension.

I take that to mean he gets the extension, unless the board denies it for a really good reason, like, "boy the offense sucked last year"! Obviously other unseemly conduct could result in no extension. Elsewhere I read that the board only authorized these extensions until 2014, so it looked like a 2 year extension guaranteed (from 10 to 12), with another 2 years if you win at least eight games and don't otherwise mess up big time. That's my take.

Tiger@$$, at least you apologized for your drivel. May I suggest www.tidefans.com? Also, just out of curiosity, how many of the contributers on the '07 BCSNCG team had significant playing time when Saban was here? Did he teach them so much in their redshirt year or their time on the bench that even Miles couldn't screw them up? What an amazing guy!!

Ladies and gentlemen, Lord Saban is so great, even after he had been gone for 3 years, the players who were either freshmen or redshirt freshmen when he was here remembered everything HE taught them...even though they didn't sniff the field while he was here. AMAZING!!

It's funny though. Pelini was so great, even though he was DEFENSIVE coordinator, he somehow managed to get LSU's offense to score more points than his defense gave up that year. Unreal. Even though his D got torched at times in that BCS year of '07 while he was thinking about the Nebraska job, he was able to somehow control the OFFENSE, loaded with all of Saban's talent, and outscore the other team. WOW! Thank God for Saban (for all the great players he developed, even though they didn't play when he was here), and thank God Saban brought Pelini on board to coach the defense...AND the most prolific offense in LSU history...during that '07 campaign. I know it doesn't make sense, but that's what it had to be. It could ONLY be Saban and Pelini.

Tiger@$$, you do realize Saban didn't hire Pelini, Miles did, right?
    Geaux away.

I'd like to appologize, someone must have hacked my account (or I was being sarcastic, but probably my account was hacked). I'm still off the Miles lil' purple and gold wagon. I'm still a whiner. Hope you all are enjoying your pre-summer.

Glad to see you're back to normal. I was afraid someone had whacked you upside the head and performed an exorcism.
