DiNardo never made it to an SEC CG and he only got 2 of those 3 wins his last year. trivia time: What head coach owns the longest losing streak in the 100+ year history of LSU football? Gerry DiNardo.
Rather ironic that he beat Saban when he was @ Michigan State.. that still makes me chuckle sometimes.
What was our offense ranked? 116? It could have been worse. Miles really shouldn't be criticized for more wins than losses (he hasn't done real good lately against damn strong teams, but that's the whole point of scheduling the weak and weaker), and if you're going to grumble at all, place the blame where it belongs. Miles has nothing to do with the subpar performance of the offense this last season, he can't be blamed for the poor job done by the devil Miles hired (Gary Crowton) or the players that Miles recruited whom underperformed. Those players have been disappointing and need to do a better job of figuring out what a mudhole in the ground looks like. (But really, the players are making sacrifices for their team and want to win as bad as the fans do, so don't critize them.)(Also, Miles won a NC with Crowton, so don't critize Crowton too much - everyone is entitled to a 116 rating every now and then.) Look, Miles has had highly rated recruiting classes and that is guaranteed to continue under Miles whether LSU competes for championships or not. By having highly touted recruits we are basically guranteed a winning season, which basically gurantees that our attendance will remain high enough to make money, which basically guarantees that our program will have lots of money. Miles job isn't to win football games, anyway, it's to make sure that LSU makes enough money. Also, you have to give the folks who write these contracts credit. We've got a contract with Miles that nobody would even come close to matching, so LSU is all but guaranteed to make money because Miles will remain. Same with Crowton and Chavis. That takes foresite, my friends. Also, critics, you need to look yourself in the mirror. A true LSU fan would be happy with LSU, even if we put a mediocre product on the field (and there is no earthly way the last few years can be described mediocre). For those who want to say we havn't performed well against highly ranked teams or sec teams lately, I say enjoy tailgaiting and pay less attention to trivial details. It's not like we haven't had a winning season every years Miles has been here and that is good enough for a program in the top 10 as far as revenue goes. Because our athletic dept is making money, that *IS* good enough. Think about it. Just sayin.
I'm not gonna go find quotes from you, but I know from past discussions that we've had that you have either, bumped your head or you are beng sarcastic, because this doesn't match what I know to be your sentiment.
LSU fans have supported this team for as long as a decade under REAL coaching problems. Les has wins over all of the SEC big boys, by the way. For every doom-and-gloomer that might leave after an 8-win season there are two fans waiting for season tickets. I've got my eye on your parking pass . . . With our tough schedule and no SEC-caliber quarterback, 8-4 or 9-3 is a reasonable expectation. Some very good top-20 teams will finish with two or three SEC losses and LSU could be among them. In some years it will be Bama and Florida, too. Ain't memory selective? Over two five-year LSU careers: Total wins --- Nick=48, Les = 51 11+ win seasons --- Nick=1, Les=3 8 or 9 win seasons --- Nick=3, Les=2 We could have a lot worse problems, you know. The day that LSU fires the winningest coach of any five-year period in LSU history is the day LSU becomes Auburn. Those consumed with nostalgia for our second-winningest coach really need to move on. Well, I bet you can join the bandwagons at Alabama or Florida if you think they will win forever. They have Nick if that's what good football means to you. I'm sticking with the Tigers rain or shine. We are in the top tier of the best football league in America. Life is sweet, amigo. We're not going to win them all and we're not going to lose them all. But football at LSU has never been better than the last 10 years and I see no reason that will change anytime soon.
I agree with most of what you have said. With that, I think Miles and Saban combined have turned LSU into something that I think most of us want to see continue. An SEC Elite year end and out. Thats not unrealistic to expect that given this past decade and given the amount of talent LSU has fielded. Though I am not dumb enough to expect it each year, but should LSU be happy with 8-9 win seasons with repeated top recruiting classes? I think not. It is not uncommon for a coach to lose his touch on things and it could easily happen to every coach in the league. Miles is a very god coach and brings in very good recruiting classes, With that being said, does Miles get the pass for a 2nd contract if he fails to get 10 wins in the next 2 seasons riding on some of the best recruiting classes in the nation for the past 3 years? I know all things that plagued LSU these past 2 seasons are not all Miles fault, however it is his job to put in the right pieces to get LSU to perform to their true potential. I think this is what bugs most of us. We all know LSU had the talent to beat anyone we faced last year, instead, we watch as our talent is wasted most games and our O finishes up the season 116th in the league. That is HORRIBLE for the amount of talent that gets fielded. I also think most of us would agree that GC should be gone, but why isn't he? I mean some say that it is not Miles fault for the piss poor O, but doesn't GC work for Miles? After the first few games of strugling to get 45 + plays on O, you would think Miles would have made some changes. With my final thought on this subject, can anyone really sit here and say they would be perfectly fine if Miles got a second contract after 2011 and failed to muster up a 10 win season with the recruiting classes he has had? Just because I wouldnt be fine with that does not mean I wouldnt support LSU and jump ship to UF or Bama, that's just dumb talk. It is out right silly to think that being a fan means you are not allowed to disagree with how the team plays or how they are coached. Here is to the best of luck to Miles as he try's to get LSU back to the SEC champ game. ( Actually, I just want LSU to stomp a mud-hole in Bama this year!~).. LSU BABY!:crystal::crystal:+:crystal:~!
If it's 2 more 9 win seasons, I could live with it. 10 wins isn't like some magic border. It's not all that matters. Here's why (in my eyes).. This team was easily 2-3 plays away from a 10 or even 11 win season last year with an offense that wasn't even ranked in the top 100. So if they have 2 more 9 win seasons, but the offense ends up ranked 75th and then 30th then I'm good with that. It doesn't even have to be that much of a jump, but you get my drift. Agreed. The offense was bad last year. The year before that though, it was the defense that sucked (65th @ 25.9 pts/game), and in 2009 we ended up 12th in the nation in total defense @ 16 pts/game last season. Everyone shouted and demanded improvement after the 2008 season and we got it. Who knew the offense was going to take a dump? This year, the fans are demanding an improvement. I think despite what we saw in the spring game @ QB, we'll have it. The O-line and the running game look much better which in a real game will help the QB play, and even with the pass accuracy issues the offense seemed to be able to get the plays in a bit quicker this spring. I think it will only improve throughout the summer. Trivial Note: In the 2007 Spring game, Flynn and Perrilloux were less than spectacular too. Flynn was 11/22 and Perrilloux was like 8/23 with an int.. They had a bit more yardage, but they don't typically go all out in the spring games. I'm not saying we're gonna go and win a NC game automatically or anything, I'm just sayin.. I think he's the one truly on the hot seat as of right now. And I do wish he was gone. I've been repeatedly told by folks I trust that were close to the team every day that they really thought he was a goner after this season. It's do or die for him I think. As I said above, if the team shows improvement and the record doesn't, I can live with it. Bottom line is, 5 out of the last 7 championships were awarded to an SEC team. Those 5 championships were won by 3 teams, and we play 2 of them every year. The other one is us. It's quite possible to have an excellent LSU football team that only has 9 wins. I know you love LSU though.. We all do. It's what makes LSU fans the most passionate college football fans in the country. Hell, the only reason we bicker so much in the off season is because it passes the time so football will hurry up and get here. :thumb: :tigereye:
