Thanks, but I know what a bolo is, just not what it means in that sentence...maybe, "stymied" or "played with?"

Sorry for the late reply, I was off-island last week for a wedding on Kauai and have been down with a nasty cold ever since. (Great wedding, BTW ... I spent the entire weekend in bed chugging NyQuil cocktails.)

The term "bolo" was meant to mean "hitless" or "strike out". I have usually heard it in an aeronautical context to indicate failing a flight physical or maybe when a jet fighter pilot comes back from a mission with no scores/shootdowns. Maybe it's a regional term, so I apologise. I freely admit I live on a speck of land smack-dab in the middle of 11,000,000 square miles of deep, blue, salt water ... so, ya, we have evolved physically and speech-wise quite independantly from the rest of humanity.

Anyway, I meant we struck-out on Sua-Filo and Husiak, both of whom we thought we had a pretty good shot at. (Sua-Filo got punked by D. Kennard at the RSC camp last summer, so maybe he wasn't too hot on facing Kennard in practice every day for 3/4 years. :hihi:)

Obviously, we're pretty happy with Martinez and Graf but we wanted 4 OL in 2009, so the heat's on to get 4 or 5 good OL in what is kind of a down year for OL out west ... we'll see.

Since I'm familiar with fighter pilot terms, and I hadn't heard of bolo or boloed, I googled it.

    Bolo:

–noun 1. a soldier who does not meet the minimum standards of marksmanship.

–verb (used without object) 2. to fail to meet the minimum standards of marksmanship.

Just to close the etymological loopage.

A vacation for Hawaiian folks - is that visiting the mainland to get a taste of the misery we live with on a regular basis?
