i don't know who is out there personally, i don't recruit, but there are a number of great basketball players in this state who are playing at other schools in louisiana -- just look around at any of the state schools. i'm sure there are quite a few players that would have been able to contribute this season. i don't doubt the hustle of this team, just don't think that they should be starting on an SEC team. i don't live under a rock. just because i haven't really followed basketball this season doesn't mean that i haven't in the past. i just have too much to do in school this semester to pay attention to both baseball and basketball. i don't have a problem with CTJ. i really like the guy and want him to succeed, and i think he will. i just think that he could have done a better job recruiting. we need someone on our staff that is really familiar with LA. butch pierre is the main reason i think brady had the success he did. we need someone like him.
Way to go Tigers, beat up on the Piggies. I guess we got our win in the SEC, im cool now, rock on CTJ.
La had 2 3-star recruits last year. 0 5star, 0 4 star. ctj brought in one of them (ludwig) and he brought in a 4 star from Wa (dotson) and he brought in a proven commodity (better than a 5star in my book) transfer (white). he tried to get noel johnson (4star) and cousins (5star) among others. yall are delusional.
i forgot to mention that the other 3star recruit in La that ctj couldnt bring in, roberson, signed with tx am. oh, and his brother played ball there.
That was my point. There was really noone for him to go after that was better than what he brought in. People are complaining about him not landing any superstars, when in reality there were no superstars to be had, so he held his schollies for better talent the next year.
I was never complaining about him not landing superstars, what i was complaining about, was his whole philosophy where he said he didn't want superstars, that were only going to be in school 1 year. I mean what if the next Kevin Durant is a kid from Baton Rouge, or somewhere in LA, is he going to pass on him because he doesn't want a 1 and done?
he doesnt beleive that. he says you cant live off of them, but from time to time they are a good thing. he did go after cousins (or favors, i cant remember).
well, i'll eat the crow, but i don't think that i am delusional at all. i just find it hard to believe, though, that there wasn't better talent out there in the state. i don't think the number of stars tells the entire story either. hell, hit the jucos or angola penn state... :hihi: i honestly couldn't care any less anymore. congrats on the win, tigers.
Bingo, Gumbo. Clair, you seem to have taken my "positivism" about the program and ignored the plain facts. First, Trent has never said he "doesn't" appreciate 5 star players, just that he's trying to build a "foundation" of good solid players that want to be at LSU and help the APR ratings, not hurt it. Second, yes, he's had two years to truly recruit. You can pick on him for being "selective" about how he used his early schollies, but to Gumbo's point, 5 star players don't grow on trees, and the point of my previous post is that for LSU to sign a 5 star, it's a little bit of proximity, good hard recruiting, an attractive program and luck--and so far there hasn't been a 5 star kid out of LA or MS to really say that LSU had a "realistic" shot of signing during the Trent era. The only kid of that caliber that he DID go after was Demarcus Cousins, who talked to LSU but went to Kentucky... go figure. He did sign Bass, Dotson, Ludwig and got a commitment from White... and he got a commitment from John Isaac the BEST LA player rated in LA in 2011. What he chose not to do is waste schollies on academic risk FR from LA or JUCOs that would contribute marginally. He also didn't "expect" to lose Farrer to knee injury, to have Bo hurt his wrist in a bizarre slip and fall, and slow injury recoveries from Green, Dotson. Even as you look out in the near future, 2011 is not a deep LA class, and frankly LSU now doesn't have a lot of schollies to give after a VERY GOOD 2010 class. So, as I' ve said before (and I also have questioned Trent's recruiting BEFORE this year's results) 2012 is just as important to this debate as any other class--that is when he'll have a fair number of schollies and better LA targets. Still though, the only potential 5 star in that class will be Gathers, who is considering LSU (and wouldn't be if Brady was still here).
How are scholarships affected by the APR exactly...and what exactly are the rules on scholarships in basketball. I know it's not just a set number each year like in football. I'm sure I'm not the only one out here that doesn't really know, Thanks in advance.
