nothing personal. I've said in this thread, I think he is a better pure coach than Brady and I think he does more with less than almost anyone in America. I just hope having less isn't a pattern while he's here. That's all. Again, like I said in the original message, which people seem to be ignoring is I am saying next year is the big year. I can not stand by and be 100% in someone's corner when they are 0-12. Especially not in basketball when one player can change it all -- for good or bad.
next year should be very tough too. i can see the extra yr experience plus malcolm white can replace tas, but then youre just back to status quo. post D should be much better, but i just dont see where points will come from. i wouldnt be surprised with a less than 4 win sec season. however, that extra yr experience is impossible to predict. all it takes is for a couple guys to make a big improvement to dramtically raise the prospects. the most likely best-case scenario is that stringer can be a sufficient PG, dotson becomes a scorer and bo becomes a consistent scorer. the post will be fine with warren and white. this still leaves the possibility that harris, green, ludwig and incoming Fr step up.
For some strange reason Bama's basketball season is mirroring LSU's team with new coaching and reloading of talent. It was felt that coach Gottfried was doing less with more. Now we are struggling, but it looks like we are doing more with less. Either way you gotta have talent and coaching to win. If players don't come to Bama something is wrong. We obviously have talent in Alabama. Unfortunately right now most of it's called the Kentucky Wildcats (Cousins, Bleadsoe). All we have to do is keep the studs at home and coach them up. Coach Grant is on the clock. LSU, is of the same ilk. Talent shouldn't be a problem for the LSU brand.Your coach has a year on Grant but has also won in the SEC . If it takes Grant over two years to rebuild Gottfried's team, that sounds scary and it says the same caliber of player we have been getting is not interested. Why? I know both coach Johnson and Grant can coach, now can they follow Saban and Mile's lead and recruit?
It takes one player. I'm with you. Let's sign the guy who plays one year with the 4 guys that will be 4 years. Role players with a stud never hurts one's program.
The problem is Kentucky doesn't recruit - they choose. We, Bama & LSU have to recruit. Get some good role players with a stud or two and have the great years. Winning will bring the better players into ones program.
I think the coach warned us at the end of last year that this would be a long season. He is right. Whoever has Brady can keep him.:geaux:
I pretty much can do without college basketball anyway. Of course, I wanna see LSU do well in everything, but it's hard for me to get into it when every great player leaves after 2 years...or less. - I'm more into the football, baseball, and fishing programs.
He signed two freshman last class and 1 transfer for a grand total of 3. Get facts. The reason we are playing walkons is because we lost a SR guard (AF), and he booted another player after the signing period was over. (cant remember name but he came from GA). Also if Brady is so much better than CTJ than why is he at a sun belt school and didnt land at a big conference program when he was fired. Also with brady he had some many players leave early (i.e transfer or draft or just leaving} that trent has to be carefully so that we dont fall below that line the NCAA uses and get punished losing more schollys
I don't think anyone is saying that. However, 0-12 in a weak conference is not acceptable and Johnson should be questioned in my opinion. Should he be replaced? Of course not. He proved he can coach last year and a bad draw in the tournament possibly kept his team from making a run in the NCAAT.
I'm incouraged by the Top 20 class he's bringing in next year. If he can bring in one more top 20 class to follow that, we'll have the talent in about 2 years. I'd like to give the guy a few years to stabalize the program and get his guys in. Certainly think it's too early to look to replace him, but questioning him is valid.
