Who knows. Some do no doubt. Many just want a winner and Trump appears to be one. More just want someone from the outside to wreck the whole corrupt edifice apart. Finally it's way too early to get really serious and hopefully most are just letting off steam. Ask me again in March.
Trump, Carson, and Fiorina are up because the people are sending messages that they are tired of Washington business as usual. We are in the entertainment portion of the way-too-long American campaign. When it comes down to two candidates, voters will be looking for some credentials in domestic and foreign policy. The three who have never served in public office will be at a distinct disadvantage. These folksy popular figures will be skewered on policy issues in the one-on-one debates. Hillary will clobber Trump in a debate.
Don't you think Trump can hire better speech writers and policy advisors than Hillary? And while Hillary comes off as not quite human and calculating in everything she says Trump at least sounds spontaneous. Two supremely unlikable characters but at least one of them you can believe is a human being albeit an extremely arrogant one.
Better than Bill? I hardly think so. Exactly. Never prepared, ignores tough questions, says stupid shit. It will become increasing obviously that he does not understand how government works, much less domestic policy or foreign policy. Not one little bit. Hillary will eat him alive on policy issues, Trump will evade and make stupid remarks. Any competent opponent will make him look foolish. Trump is going to try to be a Kingmaker. That is why the GOP candidates are kissing his ass instead of making a fool out of him. They want his endorsement to break out of the pack. And it will cost them. Meet your new secretary of Commerce.
