i think the dolphins are spending happy after they got a 2nd and 7th round draft pick for wes welker. also saved 3 mil on randy mcmichael.
I'm not entirely sure what the Fins are doing. One the one hand, they're treating the team like a rebuilding effort (which it is, which I've been saying since the Wannstedt days), and then they sign this massive contract. I'm hoping that they're thinking that they need to rebuild the offense (pending Culpepper progress), and continue to bolster the defense. Hopefully that will involve signing a couple of cornerbacks and a safety or three. I like the signing from a fan perspective, I'm just not sure I'll like it from a fan perspective if they have cap problems -- again.
the more i see the free agents who are signing incredible money the more i like the porter signing. who the hell else is out there this year? definitely a supply demand situation but the supply is one or two at each position and the rest are signing crap for nearly the same amount. you dont want to be stuck with the crap names so you better step up and sign someone proven or get left behind. porter was the 2nd best next to thomas and he actually cost a bit less i believe. the secondary is still a big question for the phins. who is the big named cb/safety they drafted last year who was supopsed to be the savior? he sucked. i think the joey duck effect affected/infects an entire team and think he could be held accountable for most problems on an entire NFL franchise. Saban just added to it.
Very true. It's a thin market in free agency and with the additional cap money, the teams are acting like baseball teams (without the whining about going broke.) You're thinking of Jason Allen (injured safety at Tennessee), a classic Saban reach.
