So you agree that synthetic weed =/= marijuana and that would a mitigating factor? If you do, go rob a 7/11 with a water gun and see what happens.
Yea I remember using != in my programming classes a few years ago, but if someone hasn't seen that expression before, I would think it would be more confusing than =/=.
As a sophomore in 1958 I was disciplined by my basketball coach for popping popcorn - and enjoying it - which belonged to the gym's concession. My punishment was a one-game suspension from a road trip. I never had another encounter with the coach. I wasn't a star player then which I became the following year. It taught me more about being a true team player than anything through the years. Do freshmen still have their heads shaved and wear beanies at the beginning of the season? I did in 1961 and thought it was cool - after all, my mother was a poor practitioner at giving hair cuts. :geauxtige:helmet:
I can see you're comparing Oregon's situation to this one. A few things to note: 1) As said before, synthetic weed =/= marijuana, it does not even contain THC. 2) Oregon's players were smoking weed, while driving, on a public roadway. 3) They were driving 85 MPH. I don't smoke marijuana, did so in college, but I haven't touched the stuff in over 5 years but I am of the mindset that what a person does in the comfort of their own home is their business as long as it doesn't effect my life. Teenagers are going to smoke marijuana...show me one school that has at least one athlete on scholarship who doesn't and I'll show you a liar. The difference? TM7, Simon, and Ware got caught. They're paying their time with the suspension, they'll learn and move on. However, I'm not going to judge a group of 18-20 year olds, who we live through vicariously for entertainment every Saturday, for smoking something that a few months ago was easily attainable in gas stations across America.
Times haved changed, but so have the social values! I see Ware's Facebook entry and this makes me shake my head! The bohemians smoked their pot back then and we all knew what it was and who smoked it and we even had access to it because we knew the girls who were cool ... but you'd NEVER do it because you had values and you'd never want anyone to find out about it and let your team down. Peer pressure has become so strong nowadays ... kids now cave in and do it because if you don't, you're not considered cool. So, in fifty years, we've traded in the cigs for joints/synthetic whatever. Now, I'm a law abiding guy, but when I'm in Amsterdam, I always obey the law
I believe stevescookin is referring to the link between synthetic weed use and the incidence of death. Many reported cases of death among teens that were users of synthetic, .... and it is the primary reason that the state of Georgia enacted legislation.
