I would even say that at his age he lacked the capacity to "have consensual sex", therefore Sandusky would not have an out on the rape charges.
At ten years old he definately can't consent to anything sexual. It's not even sex with someone that old. It molestation and rape.
No, that's not dementia. That's disillusionment. Until that phone call by the board of trustees, he thought he was above the fray.
I guess so, but reading the PSU boards, it sounds like he's not really mentally there at all (and hasn't been for a number of years.) I had wondered that about him for the better part of the past decade because it was irrational how he kept on coaching, even as he couldn't coach anymore--physically or mentally.
Even if he's not suffering dementia or altzheimers, I know from the experiences of my parents in their 80's that old folks lose some confidence in themselves. My folks were both mentally sharp until death, but they knew that they had slowed down a lot, forgotten some things, and were not as mentally agile as they had been. They took on fewer and fewer responsible activities because they did not trust their bodies or their judgment anymore.
All of this happened when Paterno was in his early to mid 70s. PSU fans can make excuses all they want. That man doesn't have dementia.
So......what does that say about coach Miles????? I love the man, but I scratch my head a lot after reading his statements.
Steve Spurrier on Joe Pa's situation: “My thoughts are like everyone else in the country. It’s one of the saddest, most tragic series of events I think we’ve ever seen. Coach Joe did what he had to do, and he’s a good friend and I certainly admire everything he’s done in the coaching profession.”
