Don't you guys think that playing both guys is creating a competition between the 2, and thus making them both (in Les Miles speak) have a "want" to get better, or be the best?
I guess I just don't understand why it's a big deal who takes the first snap, they will both play significant roles. I know people tend to completely devalue Jefferson, and that's not fair because he does bring something to the table. IMO, I like JJ starting. Set the tone with the run, let Lee air it out after.
There should be a heathy competition at every position. Superior competitors are rewarded by being made starters. If I'm Lee and I outplay Jefferson in each game and still am not rewarded with a start . . . Then I'm out of here in January for greener pastures. Incentives must have rewards.
Gotta disagree, maybe if we're losing. I think that's pretty selfish if the team is rolling. Winning should be the incentive to play well.
This would be true, if stats wouldn't say otherwise. With Lee in at QB the running game actually gets more yards per run than with JJ in the game. Also, it's not that we're devaluing JJ. It's that he's only brought 1 TD and 2 FG's to the team with him leading the drive in the past 2 games, while at the same time throwing 3 INTs and killing multiple drives. He also hasn't thrown a passing TD in 5 games. As soon as he starts bringing something to the table that can't be done better by other players either in the same position or another, then I'll be glad to throw him some props. The problem is, right now he's just taking snaps away from Lee who desperately needs them.
Happens a lot. You don't have to sit out if you transfer down. Craig Nall was stuck behind Davey and Booty so he transferred to Northwestern, started as a senior and then played 8 year in the NFL, having started exactly one game at LSU. Rick Clausen transferred to Tennessee for the same reason, sat out a year and returned to beat LSU in Tiger Stadium as a Tennessee starter.
I think that Keller kid that torched us in the Arizona State katrina game, transferred to Nebraska to play his sr. season also.
But you are devaluing him without realizing it, you are saying that he doesn't deserve to take snaps from Lee. We could sit here and "what if" until we're blue in the face, but the fact of the matter is we don't stay undefeated if not for both of our quarterbacks. Does Jefferson need to step up his passing? Without a doubt, but he gives us an added dimension to our running attack with his athleticism. I really don't care who starts, but our coaches think playing both give us the best chance to win and we haven't lost yet.
Not really, and I don't think Lee can realyl be rattled at this point. Les is probably saying exactly how much playing time each is getting, and sticking pretty close to that. If he wasn't, if he was doing it any other way, then JLee would have stayed in pretty much the entire second half at Floriday. No I believe this is all planned, and he is not crazy tbh.
