The qb rotation is talked about everwhere I go in south Louisiana. Most , if not all the people at work aren't on the boards. None of my other family members are on the boards. Still only talk of the qb rotation. If jj starts and mostly plays aginst arky , that decision will be all the talk of why we lost.
Now that you bring up ARK: it would be very interesting which QB , or both, will help LSU with a win. JJ- if he's ramped up to the level of his Cotton Bowl play JL- with seemingly more explosive offense and better reads on defense
Better than 50% chance we lose if jj plays the whole game except a drive or two. Better than 50% chance we win if jl plays the majority of the game equal odds with a 50/50 split between the two qb's. My opinion only. Jl is higher risk / higher reward. The offense runs better. I hate the way I feel watching jj play.
Knowing Miles, he'd rather play it close and not turn the ball over. He may not like a horse race type of game, like against high flying offenses like ARK or OSU.
In my opinion, most fans (and this is of any team, not just ours) micro-scrutinize their own teams, to be the point of not even really enjoying the experience of the greatest sport on earth--college football. We are nearing the home stretch of arguably the BEST season of LSU football in our history, and yet, after winning a let-down game 42-9, we have a host of fans belly-aching over how we did it and with whom we did it. Life is so short; let's just sit back and let Miles do the worrying. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy.
I am okay with JJ starting. He deserved the opportunity after stepping up in the Bama game. But I think Miles made a mistake not letting Lee enter the game on the third series and rotating them like he made a point of doing when JJ was the backup. The offense does not seem to be as fluid with JJ at QB. Leading up to the Bama game, our offense was much more effective with JL at QB. I realize the deer in the headlights look JL displayed against Bama is a concern, but we need him. I remain puzzled as to why Miles puts so much stock in JJ. I am also puzzled as to why Metzenberger was given no opportunity to compete. The scouts all say LSU will be improved at QB next year.
What bothers me is that when JJ was starting, if he played well (for him) JL never got a sniff at coming in. And when he played poorly, and JL had to come in for Fla, Tenn, he never was in danger of not starting. When he played well in the Cotton Bowl, JL didn't get in except to kneel on the ball. Either it's that he's convinced that JJ is better no matter what, or he's doing it to placate team members who want to see JJ as the man.
This! I have to throw my 2 cents in. Talked a little about it on another thread. We haven't seen JJ throw much this season, until last night. By and large, his throws were accurate and with good velocity, whether short or deep. JJ, by many accounts, was looking very good before the season (Manning passing academy). I think we'll see more passing from JJ in the next game against Ole Miss. You cannot deny that having him in the game makes the opposing defense worry about a run threat from the QB position. And for the first time since I can remember, the option actually works for positive yards. Really worked well against ALA. I used to hate that play, and now it seems to work. Some are complaining about the safety last night. I think it was a bad play call. We had one receiver running a route, who was double covered. The pocket collapsed quickly. No where for JJ to go. I wonder if there was supposed to be an outlet somewhere that didn't materialize. I don't think JL would have fared any better in that situation. JL totally panicked against Ala. Those two throws for interceptions were poorly thrown and telegraphed. He had no clue that that the safeties were dropping back in coverage. Some of his thorws before that were almost as bad. I think his play has actually started regressing since JJ came back to the team...might be looking over his shoulder and worrying about making mistakes vs just playing the game. I dont think they had any choice but to bench him. While JJ takes longer to make decisions in the pocket, I think right now he gives the team the best chance for a balanced, multi-threat attack, especially if he gets the passing game going. And I think he will, based on what I saw yesterday (his first game to make quite a few throws) and on reports about his improvement in passing this off-season. Not saying JL shouldnt play, but I think JJ will start from here on out. Think back to how he handled the Cotton Bowl against A&M. He can get the job done. And btw.... loved me some Blue last night! That guy runs like thoroughbred coming out of the gates.
