Lee isn't perfect - he almost threw an interception last night. He threw two against Bama. But dang if it doesn't seem like we are mishandling our QBs again now that JJ is available. I don't have a problem with a two QB system, but with JJ at the helm we wouldn't have had the season we've been having. We don't need a mobile QB threat, we've got running backs who are quite capable. We need a QB who is a threat to throw the ball effectively and not take off running the first sign of things breaking down. JJ just doesn't make our offense complete in the way JL does. JJ is a nice compliment to JL, but we are a better team with JL as the primary QB. Our best chance at a NC is JL.
I agree. I was thinking of the same thing. To me it is the first time JJ was made to make so many passing plays. I believe Miles think he does need both QB's ready for the final challenging stretch, and therefore JJ's play needs to be ramped up and fortified with a stronger passing game. I also think Miles knows what he got with JL, and is not necessarily concerned with him. The proof is the way the offense moved under JL this season to bring them to this level. Making JL run last night may be a way of breaking JL out of the mental mode of being a statue.
I think they are trying to be less predictable with the 2 QBs and make people think they have to worry about the full gamut of plays when either QB is in.
best points of the day also it might be a little late - allow him to get hit and get used to the idea I play football - a full contact sport !
Think with jl running , miles is trying to teach him that instead of forcing the ball when nothing is there that he can tuck the ball and get positive yards?
Not necessarily. But being more mobile > statue. The running play by JL yesterday with positive yards reminded me of Matt Flynn's running when plays broke down and when there is a wide open field for the QB.
I'll say this, it seemed to me that CLM wanted JJ to get some experience running a pro-style set. I don't remember just a whole lot of option, nor plays designed for JJ to run. Saw a LOT of passing plays .. mostly way down field. I dont want to read too much into it. But if JJ comes out and starts next week, with a similar game plan, with Lee contributing very little, then I'm going to have to question the decision being made by CLM. People keep saying .. 'trust the coach". Well we trusted the coach last year, and ended up in the cotton bowl. People say, 'he's winning" .. yeah, with Lee starting, and JJ comming in as needed. Usually, you don't change what is working. In the Bama game, ok, it wasn't working, but in the other 8 games, it worked just fine. I'd hate to see that changing what your doing ends up costing you a ballgame becauase you can't score as many points as you normally would.
