I didn't boo when JJ entered the game but I was not happy about the timing. It reminded me of last season when Lee would save our ass only to let JJ come in at the end. He came close to blowing the Tennessee game due to being clueless. I was happy and did cheer when Lee was brought in on third down. To me it evened out what I perceived as an earlier slight to Lee. I want to use these guys like we did four years ago. I want JJ to fill Perilloux's role. Some are talking about JJ as if he's a great QB. He has started 26-27? games and has shown little progress. His best two games (Chick-fil-A Bowl & Cotton Bowl) came after long breaks when the staff had plenty of time to plan. If we had JJ as our starter I don't think we would win the title. Sorry if that upsets anyone but he's too one-dimensional and not talented enough to overcome his mental (clock management, reading defenses, exuding confidence, leadership, making smart decisions) shortcomings. Hopefully we'll find a way to play AND win with both. Lee as the starter (and primary) and JJ as the backup (and occasional) QB. Make the opponents prepare for both but don't screw around rotating both and blowing rhythm.
I don't think Lee is as bothered by JJ coming in as the fans; so, are the fans trying to stir up a QB controversy?
All I heard in the 2 sections I sat at were F JJ this, F jj that and stomp on the head comments etc... I assume a small % of the older fans probably felt that way but very few IMO. Seems like the same story I have heard from many who went to the game. The players and Miles seemed to also agree.
Always...just like people used to scream for Mickey Guidry to play more when Tommy Hodson was setting school records. It never changes.
"They" aren't using any excuse because I don't know anyone that boo'ed personally. I offered a suggestion based off of why I was upset. Just because it was directed at JJ doesn't mean that it was about him. Miles could have picked a much better time to introduce him back. No one boo'ed when he went back out in the 3rd. Not that I heard anyway. Why? Because it was the timing. Fans want Lee to be the QB. Lee leads the entire team down the field into the redzone and then they switch JJ in. I'm sure more than 1 person was getting flash backs to last year. I know I was.
Bingo. :thumb: And that's the main reason why I very rarely attend sporting events. Too many idiots with single digit IQs in the stands. I went to a freshman HS game Thursday afternoon because my boss's kid plays. Damn good game except for some idiot that kept questioning the coaches play calling and substitution patterns. His kid was probably on the bench and not playing. Thanks goodness I was a guest. I might have been tempted to drill him.
It's sad because the players don't feel that way. Big game nxt week, and all the players are talking about are our fans that booed. What was a HUGE positive to them was turned into a negative by ignorant people in our fan base. :dis:
People express their frustration in many ways. Why do you think so many people feel negatively about JJ? The majority feel like he was holding our team back last year is why, I'd posit. I wasn't happy with the choice, either, but was glad to see JJ come in later in the game and actually felt that Lee played a few too many series. I don't condone the booing, I wouldn't have booed, but I was frustrated and can definitely understand the sentiment. My frustration, and I imagine most of the frustration felt, was at Miles, not JJ. Your anecdotal evidence mean little to me, especially in the sarcastic society we live in today. A negative statement against JJ in the heat of the moment is very likely a vocal expression of frustration at the situation. I doubt most of those folks in your section truly HATE JJ.
Wonder if the "fans" would have boo'ed in the 3rd had JJ failed the QB sneak TD? They are going to be giving JJ an ultrashort leash. I understand your point about fans wanting Lee to finish that drive at the goaline; but from the coaches perspective, their goal is not necessarily popularity contest, but to maximize the winning chances.
