Only a few real pick 6's? LOL at this. Anything more than 0 is too many. He was giving the ball to linebackers. Spikes had 2 in one game! Georgia's LB had a pick 6 on the first offensive play. He even threw one to a DE. Pretty these had nothing to do with dropped passes or poor tackling. There is no such thing as a non-real interception returned for a TD. 9 times out of 10 these are the result of terrible decisions and even worse throws. Not writing off Lee necessarily but it's ludicrous to suggest that those weren't his fault.
A few were his fault and his alone... the Auburn and UGA game were his fault... but there were a few balls thrown that the recievers SHOULD have caught, instead they either went through their hands or the recievers ended up putting the ball back up for grabs off their bodies... these are not the QBs fault regardless of who's throwing the ball. When a QB hits a reciever in the hands or pads, it is the job of the reciever to haul it in... out of his what 7(?) pick 6's last season... only three or so were true picks. And I remember this forum up in arms about getting JJ in there... and all the flack I took for defending Lee. Now JJ isn't throwing the passing yards or throwing the TD numbers Lee did and everyone is up in arms again. It's becoming apparent that unless we have a tebow or bradford type QB playing in every down of every game... there's some LSU fans who will never be happy. I think what everyone needs to realise is that all of our QBs are barely old enough to buy a pack a smokes in a gas station... things will get better. I remember a few years ago when Russell was making big mistakes in games, Flynn throwing a few pick 6's to UGA in the SECCG, and Mauk even had a few bad games. The sun isn't setting on LSU football... it's rising and will only get brighter.
Which is why Jefferson is still a scary rookie QB. Two of his almost-interceptions would have been returned for TD's if caught. He's making the same rookie mistakes that Lee made and has had better luck so far.
So far, JJ has had the benefit of making these mistakes vs. ULL and Vanderbilt, and not the tougher SEC foes we have awaiting us. I'm tempering my optimism for that exact reason, but he still has looked like a sounder decision maker than Lee for the most part to this point. Also his ability to run is really helping our offense right now. Imagine how hard of a time we'd have running up the middle with Lee in there instead of Jefferson. You think they're stacking up right now? Wait til they see 12 out there instead of 9, and don't have to spy their LBs and contain with their ends. Our inside running game is almost nonexistent as it is, but with the threat of JJ and Trindon/Keiland on the option we're at least keeping the D honest.
not so sure. it looks like its preventing him from staying in the pocket. getting 3-7 yds from the qb is fine when you need it but not if it means you never complete a pass over 12yds. dude needs to learn to step up or slide in the pocket. but baby steps are fine with this sched. hopefully this is what the coaches had envisioned.
The reason why JJ has looked like he makes better decisions is because they haven't called much that goes beyond 10 yards and the guy has feet. Lee doesn't have the wheels, so JJ can run the option to take some of the pressure off him or when he doesn't know what to do he can get 3-5 yards of the play. The problem is the defense has caught on to that just like they caught up on the Scott up the middle play. As far as the limited amount of time he has thrown from the pocket I would say he looks about the same as Lee, but I feel like Lee has a better arm and has a better touch on the ball. With that said, I believe Jefferson has earned his way into the position and he should be given a shot. The problem is the OC is on year two of this and the position doesn't look anymore solid then it did 18 months ago. How long do you go before you put Lee back in? I don't know... if he puts Lee in down 21-0 to Florida I want his resignation. I think you have to open it up, when the other team has 8-9 in the box you have to throw 1.) to make the other team pay and 2.) the coverage isn't going get any easier than that for the QB 3.) to get experience and to get better a the position. To me the OC is failing JJ just like he failed Lee. IMHO Crowton is a DC's wet dream with his personnel substitution.. I wouldn't be surprised if the other team isn't shouting what the play is when they start substituting. It's pretty easy for the opposing DC right now... put 8-9 in the box and hope they don't connect on a few deep throws.
Come on SIU, ya gotta' admit that Scott up the middle is keepin' them honest :yelwink2:. Crowton's a genius !!... ...for a zombie !!
I agree. :milesmic: I guess Crowton is looking for 11 in the box before he springs his trap. To be honest the defense knows what is coming, so anyone that's in there on offense is playing at an extreme disadvantage. The problem is they have spent the last 3 years running this way and now they have to change in the middle of the season. My thought is the players will have to out talent the opposing team every game because the coaches have not put them in an advantaged position. IMHO We'll see. To me it looks like last year all over again if they continue this, I truly hope it doesn't turn out that way. JJ or JL need experience throwing the ball, I would have rather seen them do it in the first 3-4 games then down 17-0 to Florida.
