It was obvious that he has problems throwing the deep ball. He wants to take off too soon instead of staying in the pocket and waiting for the recievers to break open. I think he and could be the biggest obstacle holding up our O. We have other problems too but he could be the biggest. Anybody else think this or am I just blowing smoke.

ps. I'm not trying to start an argument. I'm simply trying to figure out what is wrong with our offense.

Let's not throw him under the bus just yet. He has a ton to learn and he has some talent, he needs time and experience just like I was telling MASTERNOMIND. My gut is telling me LSU will eventually have to move in a different direction but Jefferson deserves a shot, he deserves some playing time to see if can do it.

The OC is the one holding the team back, the defense knows what play is coming by personnel substitution. Crowton is a dream to an opposing DC right now. 90% of the offense should be able to be ran with whoever you have in the game.

Jefferson is good at the short routes, roll outs and option. He will eventually have to learn to throw in the middle. To me it's not the lack of the deep ball it's the non-existent middle of the field passes.

All a defense has to do is play 8-9 in the box, when the players substitute you basically know the play call selection... the only thing the defense has to worry about is the offense connecting on a couple of deep routes... which seems like most are willing to give up if it happens.

i havent seen him throw a tight spiral yet-- why when he throw is the ball all caddywampus in teh air... im just sayin' that throws the timing off the wr and decreases the distance that he can throw-- get it together JJ--- i think jarett is by far a better passer-- JJ might have more zip but jarett throws a better ball, and has better range, distance, and accuracy

you really think if given the chance, JL would be just as bad as last year? I think he would do fine this year. If JJ keeps running the ball the way he does and keeps taking those kind of hits, JL is going to be quarterback sometime this year.

JJ has the arm-strength, just a little problem with accuracy. RS doesn't have the arm-strength YET. I want to say JL is the best passer but the INT's make me hesitant and I'd assume he may still be needing to build his confidence and why the coaches are dripping his return.

I don't think JL is done and I feel he will be a solid contributer to our team before his days are over in purple & gold. Maybe I'm just hoping for him to be able to have a happy ending cause it hurt me inside to see him struggle last year when I have to believe him being highly recruited points to him being a better quarterback than we saw. I don't think he was ready to be thrown in and had we not lost another highly recruited qb he wouldn't have had to.

He holds every major season and career passing record in Brenham football history. 6,096 career passing yards and 70 touchdowns out of a spread offense. I know college is not high school but with those numbers, the fact that he had 30 offers and held true to his committment even after Jimbo left. He's on our team so I remain on his.

    +1
It sort of seems to me he is more accurate down field when he rolls out & throws on the run. He seems to be uncomfortable in the pocket & starts getting happy feet. Then again Tebow was getting happy feet yesterday when he was looking down field and finding no one open like he usually sees. Of course then he just took off and ran over 2 people. But that's Tebow.

I would imagine JJ CAN throw the deep ball in practice. Sure, practice is helluva lot different from game conditions. How is this translated to an actual game?

The fact that he struggled a bit against ULL is better than struggling against an SEC team. Perhaps we see a better, more accurate JJ next Saturday.

At least JJ is not like Hatch who couldn't throw the ball further than 10 yards.

He actually did connect with Dickson across the middle twice last night, which was good to see. But he needs to work on the long ball.

The long ball was just about the only thing that JL could throw last year. I love that the coaches have had him throw each of the three plays that he's been in the game this year. They could've just had him hand it off (especially last night on the goalline), but they are working to restore what has to be his fragile self-confidence.

Will JJ ever be a great QB? It's way too early to tell. Even a talent like Jamarcus Russell took a long time to develop, and he only started running with the ball his junior year.

We have a great stable of QBs that we're amassing right now, but they are all really, really young--again, more of the residual RP effect (as they'd all still be waiting in the wings this year if RP wasn't self-destructive.) I imagine that none of them will be "the man" as the next few seasons go by, but rather, that we'll see a true multi-QB system--might be ground-breaking and innovative.

Further proof that the most popular player on the team is the back-up QB.
