Keep in mind we only saw a short competition of hitting golf carts and receivers with no defensive pressure. But from a mechanics stand point he has been taught (and he paid attention) to getting his feet set and getting the ball out of his hand faster. He will always have that looping throw but it came out faster and his release was at the top of delivery. I think from what I saw he would be in the top 3 to 4 of the qbs that were out there. He is still not accurate with the long ball, but he can get it out there. He mostly overthrew his target but there really wasn't the speed at wide out that he is used to. I liked what I saw from last years to this yr. Hope it translates in to a less lethargic offense.:geaux:
i wouldn't bet on Mettenberger beating out Lee so early. Mettenberger has 1 offseason of experience with LSU, Lee has 4 years of experience with LSU also, Lee did very well last year during the first two games he came in for JJ: Lee vs Tennessee: 16 of 23 (69.6%), 185 yards (in that same game, JJ was 3 of 10 for 30 yards, 2 INTs) Lee @ Florida: 9 of 11 (81.8%), 124 yards, 2 TDs then he was 9 of 14 (64.3%) vs McNeese, 8 of 14 (57.1%) @ Auburn, 4 of 7 (57.1%) vs Bama
Cam Newton went undefeated with an NC with exactly the same level of experience. Lee's had a full year of experience on Jefferson for 2 years and still can't manage to take the starter spot from him, so experience isn't everything. It'll be up to the coaches to determine who gives us the larger upside this year if/when Jefferson struggles, but you don't go to all this trouble to recruit a JUCO QB to sit him on the bench the whole season.
Probably one of the last articles about the camp itself: LSU's Jefferson impresses at Manning camp | DailyComet.com Also, here's a 6 minute interview where "I will be the starter, hands down" came from. Clips have been posted, but it's just a better copy and a complete interview: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwGPdoIENIk"]YouTube - LSU QB Jordan Jefferson Interview (16th annual Manning Passing Academy)‏[/ame]
I don't think Mettenberger will beat him out that early. But neither do I think that Les will let Mettenberger sit on the bench if Jefferson struggles like last year. It's why he went after Mettenberger, to have options.
or as my friend the podster put it.... "good thing we took underwater state off the schedule". :hihi:
Mett might get playing time early, but it will probably take a loss before a permanent change is made.
I see no reason after 3 seasons for Miles to change now. He will play 2 guys and stay with the hot hand, its worked for us. I think JJ will start as he is the seasoned guy and if he's hot and scoring he will stay in, if not we will see somebody else. As long as we win.
