Get ready for OLOL rates to go up. Cost shifting all of these "charity" cases over to those that actually own up to their own bills. BCBSLA should run if they still can.
It shouldn't have an impact. OLOL's charter states they have to do a set percentage of charity care anyway, and as it is the premiere hospital in the region they struggle to fulfill that obligation. This will actually be a good deal.
This dog and pony show was laughable the first time I saw it. The outcome was never in doubt. That's the fundamental problem. If BCBSLA had actually walked away from OLOL, there is a chance overly-inflated prices would have come down, as OLOL would no doubt have noticed the missing $200 million per year and taken steps to make it back somehow, perhaps by becoming more efficient and cutting prices that are too high, things that most businesses have to consider at various times. No chance of that now, and the American Insurance Model continues its march off the cliff, sticking it to customers like me all the way, with the continued protection of the U.S. government ensured and expanded. Can't wait to see the next double-digit percentage increase in my rates. All hail.
Not sure why charity is placed within quotes. Are you implying they are not legitimate charity cases?
