My point was that I thought you were wrong when you said Ott says things [regarding playcalling in this instance] that can't be discussed on this board because you'll be called negative if you do so. I disagreed with that statement. I wondered exactly what you wanted, because there's been a lot of discussion about the depth chart and playcalling, etc., in the past week with people on all sides of each issue -- and I've yet to see someone painted as negative by the majority of posters just because they disagreed with a decision Miles made. You'll notice I never specifically called you negative. I was trying to say that the only times I've seen someone painted as such in this forum (be they poster, Feinb..., er, sports columnist, or radio host) is when they're constantly leveling criticism and nothing but criticism at LSU. Obviously, I was a bit clumsy in that last point. But I wanted to stick up a bit for the board, as in my experience the discussion on here can be lively, but the posters tend to be fair, knowledgeable, and open to people with honest opinions different than their own. I totally agree that the jacka$$ comment was negative.
wow, you have to be kidding...right?! Somebody is riding Saban's Jock awfully hard. Listen, Saban didn't "turn a dog turd, into a diamond". If he was capable of that feet, he be staring with Chris Angel in Vegas. Skins?! wtf this isn't the back 9 at the Shell Houston Open. The fact that LSU has a NC, is because of the combination of coaches and players of that year. Will Muschamp was the master mind of the blitz packages that overwhelmed opposing QB's. Jimbo's play calling, and LSU's talent level. You think you can get that amount of talent to sign with Michigan State? no highly unlikely. Fact is, that Louisiana is one of the top 5 states that produces NFL caliber talent. Fact is that LSU is the Flagship college of the state. Fact is our weather, or facilities, or program...is why LSU has the potential to remain in the top 5 Football colleges every year. And if a coach comes in and creates a good supporting case of coaches, he can be very successful at LSU. If Saban was a turd polisher, he'd still be at Miami...polishing his turds.
lots of ifs. we were iffing for almost 2 decades and was close to making it 3 til one last minute phone call. Maybe you're like 100 and was living off the '58 title and still had something to hang your hat on but most didnt. the football program was an infected cyst from top to bottom and often won in spite of itself until two people decided to fumigate the place completely. we would have been the current nebraska or alabama with nothing to show for what we think is our right. saying they are contenders when no one outside of their incest areas actually believe it. now that dream is finally a reality. the emmert/saban train can be thanked for that entirely. this myth that a school will eventually break out of their funk is just that. you need the proper people in place or nothing will ever change. if we hadnt learned that by now, we never will. nebraska and gumpville are 2 of the most successful programs in football history yet have you taken a look at their last decade or so? championship programs arent created overnight yet than can certainly disappear in one.
Louisiana might be one of the top 5 states that produce NFL caliber talent, but the simple facts are that said talent did not choose to attend LSU throughout the 1990s because the administration, coaching staff, and facilites were a complete joke. How is this not clear to you?
yet, another jockstrap cling-on. What's clear to me, is that you cant see past Saban's 03 season. If he was so great, there would be conference championships hanging at MSU, and playoffs reach at Miami. Yet none of this has happened. And yet you will ride on man's coat tails into the sunset. Fact is, he probably will be successful at UA. But not at the NFL, nor at a second teir college like MSU. And unless he can recreate the coaching nucleus he had in 03, he may never win another NC. Is that clear enough for you ,and by the way...its facilities not facilites...the red line means something.
You don't plan around what might happen because this or that might also happen. You go with what gives your team the best chance to win. The QB gets the ball on every snap. The running backs do not. The LB's don't have to respect the fact that an RB also has the ability to run in addition to the ability to pass. A running back doesn't sit back in the pocket for 5 seconds looking for a reciever while running lanes open up. Ever heard of a spy? That ain't my logic, dude. That's your inaccurate interpretation of it. The QB having the ability to run the ball is a major facet of the game. A particular play is a very minor part of it. However, the QB is involved in every play. It changes a defense's game plan if they have to worry about the QB dashing for 20 yards when the don't respect his ability to run. This should not have to be explained. Yeah, good point. I forgot that Holiday was playing QB vs MSU. Gary Crowton has made a living off of running multiple plays from the same look or formation...the inability of which is/was the downfall of Jimbo Fisher. You're in for a big surprise if you think that VT is going to get the same playcalling as Moo U.
If I remember correctly, Larry Foster was not actually run down by a student. Foster ran off and hid in the restroom at the School of Music where a student who was trying to chase him finally tracked him down. That's what I believe happened, because I have a memory of reading that in the school paper while standing right outside that bathroom. Back on topic, live outside of Baton Rouge for any period of time and you'll realize just how BUSH LEAGUE sports radio in Baton Rouge is. Jimmy Ott's show is just a front for his bookie operation. Does the guy make some good points? Yes. Does the everyday silliness (texting friends to call in, thinly-veiled ads posing as content, gambling-speak, etc.) seriously detract from those good points? Absolutely, IMO. I understand that for the most part it's all there is in Baton Rouge, but it's REALLY substandard stuff. Buddy Songy's show is just impossible to listen to. It should be called the Buddy Songy Advertising Hour. The way that station gets their sponsors to call in to "talk LSU" absolutely baffles me. The fact that they largely get away with it is astounding. Songy is a complete hack. True Story: Remember the LSU-Georgia game in Baton Rouge in 2003? Pretty intense, enthralling game, right? Buddy Songy spent the ENTIRE game sexually harassing a female student employee in the press box.
