How much will we miss Jimbo's recruiting ability? Florida St is racking up an awesome class right now, and Jimbo is a large part of it. Jimbo can point to 3 first round draft picks from last year and say, I developed them. How does LSU conteract that? Do we say that it was our program that gave them the exposure? He's currently recruiting E.J. Manuel, who has LSU & Florida St as his favorites & appears to favor Florida St. With Jimbo recruiting against LSU, do you think he would resort to negative recruiting tactics? Or would he say that LSU is a great program? Last year, late in the game, Jimbo recruited Byrd for Florida St as well as Chad Jones, but LSU ended up winning those battles. There will undoubtedly be more to come.
I don't think LSU will miss him much as a recruiter or as an OC. However he is a big step up for Florida State and should help them.
I really don't know if the Jamarcus card is his to play. JR's physical tools and camp performance in front of NFL scouts is what got him where he is. The knock on JR was he was inconsistant in college. Not necessarily win/loss record but individual stats. One could blame Jimbo for that and not getting the most out of his tallent. For all we know Crowton might have gotten him the Hesman.
I doubt that, especially considering that two of our first rounders are from out of state. I highly doubt our success is going to make other programs want to recruit Louisiana any harder than they have already been doing for years. For years our state has been recruited extremely heavily by out of state programs.
I agree with you and and don't know why he keeps saying that- though Louisiana does have a great pool of talent, Florida, Texas, and California have had two to three times as many "Top 100" players than Louisiana.
JaMarcus was very raw when he came to LSU. He improved every year. He wasn't a completely polished product when he declared for the draft, but all a recruit sees is #1 overall. That's way more important than the Heisman to most people. And Jimbo can honestly claim that he developed him into the #1 pick.
