If we had Herman's offense with O at DC, that could really be interesting. I would let all the dead weight go and keep Frank and O if that would be possible. I think Frank and O deserve more of that big money than some of them numb nuts. Cam never earned his salary as far as I am concerned. Our DB coach hasn't done well either.
The recruiting part no. Otherwise, yes. I want to get really excellent use out of these unbelievable athletes. Fedore does it. I have watched what he has done at Carolina, a place where they don't have half the talent. So, I guess I would be kind of trading a guy nicknamed The Hat for an actual Hat.
Yes, I do call a former coordinator with less than one season as a head coach at a mid-major school a "fall back." He may be great, but does LSU want to roll the dice on a really unproven commodity? That's the question.
You mean like Saban and Miles? Not every team can go out and hire national championship coaches. IF LSU does this time it will be an extremely rare event.
Both Saban and Miles had multiple years' experience at major conference schools before getting hired at LSU. No, they were not championship coaches yet, but Herman has less than one season as a head coach at a mid-major. It's even riskier than Saban or Miles. That may be the direction LSU goes, and it may work out. But it's a risk, nonetheless.
Or we could hire a Mullen and watch as A&M or UT rolls the dice and rides a Mensa wave to multiple championships. Not many guys I'd want to roll the dice on, but Herman is at the top of the list.
