Well, about 15 years ago I would agree with you. But over time those same changes you've seen, I've seen, as well. Those 18-20 year olds are probably kids you'd recognize. It all comes down to the right approach to take to get the most out of them. It used to be very difficult to kick kids out the military, now not so much. If a kid doesn't want to be there, I can have him out in 30 days or he just goes AWOL because he knows nothing is going to happen to him. Comes down to them wanting to be a part of something bigger than themselves, and the authoritative approach doesn't get through like it used to. Where we diverge, I think, is the mom and dad part. In the end, though, the outcome is still the same - providing purpose, direction, and motivation to those under our charge. If any of that made any sense.
There are still teachers in my building who don't "parent" the kids, either. If it works for them, that's fine, but as for me, the maternal route works well. Kids feel that I stay calm, which actually calms them down, too.
Yeah, sounds dreamy, but LaSalle says it's a credible source, and BHelm indicates similar rumblings, so maybe. One can hope.
Look at Auburn this year, are we sure we want Muschamp as DC here, didn't we kick Floridas asses under Muschamp?
I believe accountability needs to be there and players need to have the fear that if they don't perform they could lose what they love, the opportunity to play college football and a shot at the NFL. Miles' approach with ass pats and get them next time is partially why LSU is looking like it is on the field right now.
While on paper Muschamp bombed at UF I think he is a better coach than that. He had a huge mess to clean up after Meyer left. The program had a bunch of scumbags he had to weed out. I think he has more to learn but will be a very good HC next time but I'd have zero issue with his as a DC. I love his passion for the game.
I think he would be ok. He doesn't have much to work with at AU because they only give a shit about how fast they can go on offense, and his offense at Florida were one of the few schools shittier than ours.
By passion, do you mean ranting and raving like an idiot on the sidelines? When he was in his early 30's at LSU, I guess it was a little humorous, but in his middle 40's, he looks kinda stupid when he's losing his shit.
