Florida State's Jimbo Fisher close to finalizing deal to succeed Bobby Bowden Posted by Birmingham News December 04, 2007 7:13 PM Sources close to Florida State offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher have confirmed to The Birmingham News that he and the school are close to finalizing an agreement in writing that will make him the FSU head football coach when Bobby Bowden retires. Read the rest . . .
i don't know what the hell jimbo is thinking. does he really want to be OC for however long it takes for Bowden to retire? i would never be able to do that. hopefully he has some kind of clause in there that says "if bobby doesn't retire by 2010, jimbo is released" or something. screw waiting 5 years for that job.
This has been speculated for quite some time and was believed to be the reason he took a lateral job at FSU. Now it looks like it's being substantiated.
I doubt if Bowden goes anywhere willingly as long as Joe Pa is still coaching. One of them is gonna keel over on the field, then the other will retire as soon as he's the winningest coach in history.
Jimbo is still young enough to wait for it to come open. Now Micky Andrews I would say would be a fool to have to wait until he retires.
I still don't understand the fascination people still obviously have with Jimbo Fisher. In terms of great offensive coaches.....ones that would be better qualified to take over FSU after Bowden.......Jimbo may be 20th. I don't get it. For a school like FSU, I would never enter into some agreement with an average OC to take over the program. Just like giving any coach a 10 year deal........what for? 6 years isn't good enough? Weis wins 2 years and gets a 10 year deal. Then the next year he drops off the map. The reason Weis wanted a 10 year deal is he KNEW what was coming with these 2-10 teams.
