Jimbo Fisher is overrated (Ancient Thread)

I dont care who they play as long as he gets the job done, if russell cant lead then he needs to watch a while, it's called coaching. That may light a fire under him.

Leak had less starts than Ainge or jamarcus.
Jamarcus has been at College level longer than Ainge.
I've never seen his brillance, I've seen him make some good plays, but I've seen AAron brooks make some good plays. ainge has made some good plays, Cutler has made some good plays, when he was a sophmore, Brody Crowell has made some good plays... Matt Jones made some good plays..... great plays agaisnt us...as a SOPHMORE..... and probably some bone head plays too. BUT NONE of them were as HIGHLY touted as RUSSELL.

so we can wait, might as well RP prolly is the same way right?

 

I could name a dozen or more. Some just don't have the rest of the talent around them it takes to excel. That's not the point. We are over two years removed from Mauk. Russell was there, on the side lines. It is time that he performs up to expectations, or we put someone in who will. This is his third year. This isn't some no name walk on from some local high school. This is Mr. Football alabama 2002. How long should it take for him to play up to potential? Serious question.

 

leak had less starts when? when he was a true freshman? exactly and he struggled but they let him start til he improved. he never sat. you made my point for me.

cutler is a senior as is bradie. matt jones was an abortion as a passer and was moved to WR for many games in his early career.

all make insane mistakes yet you stick with your guys when young and dont get into 2 qb systems til you're certain they cant get it done and/or wont learn. JR is a freaking sophomore just starting his 3rd game knowing he's the man this year. its ok if you want another qb but to say hes not getting it done is way too premature.

you've never seen his brilliance? surely you have an issue with the kid personally unless you missed the cap-1 bowl or even this years game against ASU.

 

name all the great qbs in college. go ahead ill wait while you try to look up some names.

JR has great potential that we're just now allowing him to develop. this comparison to brooks is absurd. russell has engineered how many comebacks not even games he was named the starter? he needs a year under his belt as the man and that will be this year. if he shows progress you ride him into the special talent he is. if he regresses you give looks to your others.

 

Then we agree. I'm just not as patient as you. Of course we don't bench him, yet. The clock is ticking. Lead, Follow, or get the get the hell out of the way. As for the names, your right, but it's too late at night to be searching the internet for names and stats. Maybe later, when this subject comes up again. I hope he proves me wrong, I'll be the first to admit it. No one on here can say that I have blindly attacked anyone without reason. I'll give Russell the benefit of the doubt. FUlmer pulled Ainge and stuck in Clausen who looked better than Russel. Who is Clausen?

Matt jones was the abortion that beat LSU in our house remember? You only see what you want to see.... but yeah give him more rope... he could be Dr. jamarcus next week, instead of Mr. Brooks ...come to think of it.. it is his week to shine, he stunk last week, and this week is Moo U. Yeah I agree he wont screw up again until Vandy or florida.... Sad as it makes me to say it.

 

i only see what i want to see? I saw exactly how bad leak regressed last year as a sophomore but his talent was always evident. not so much with matt jones but it still applies to him as well.

how many games has JR been named LSU's definitive starter? Two. rome wasn't built in two weeks nor has any qb been developed in half a year.

You probably didnt see Leak or Jones play much outside of LSU games. both looked horrendous on many many occassions no matter how the media presents them. however, they both developed into spectacular players their junior years as leak is now.

they were definitely smart enough to give him the rope he needed.

surely, you need to get over this anti-russell sentiment til its valid. certainly its not valid currently.

I think you're looking for a guy to come in and not lose games...unfortunately the last 2 years LSU has needed a QB to win games in spite of its talent and Russell has done just that. maybe you should recount the games he actually pulled out for us not even being the starter of said game.

i think you're so offbase on this one i'll just let you continue to bash the kid unjustly.

Not bashing him, just observing that he is a blue chip recruit and quite possibly is the weakest link next to the coaches in our offense, quite possibly he should be further along than he is now. there's a real possibility that the QB's on the bench have better leadership and defense reading ability without a touch. not likely but possible.

Regardless of what you say, this fact remains, Leak started as a freshman and looked better with ZERO experience than Jamarcus does now. Leak had NOTHING around him and ZOOK was his coach... Jamarcus had SABAN and all the talent in the world. the QB job last year was HIS to step up and TAKE. SABAN didn't keep him from it, he couldnt take it from Randall, that says alot right there.


How many starts has Clausen had? How did he look compared to Jamarcus? How highly was he touted? Old Phat fulmer must have thought he has something. Man I sure wish he woulda run in there with the Purple and gold on.

maybe you should count the times he "blew it" for us and Randall came in and saved it. That's the whole point and you're missing it, he is supposed to be really good, as in much better than Randall was/is. He is mediocre at best and he has plenty of time to develop. We can wait a while sure, and no doubt he will improve but shoudlnt it be soon? Can we afford to wait until he is 5 games into his Sr year? God I hope not.

give him a chance? sure I've said else where I support him everytime he suits up.
Question his very high level of athletism... no way.
question if he has what it takes to be a leader at LSU under center?.... um yeah I'd say the jury is still out on that one..... and the clock is ticking...
