Jimbo's playbook looked like something out of high school last night. Even the one misdirection pass play looked like crap! And I was foolish enough to think that Jimbo was going to open it up this year since Saban "was holding him back". What a joke!
I would argue that it was Les Miles playbook. Jimbo Fisher works for Les Miles! We didn't open it up under Saban because we didn't have too, our Defense was good enough to play conservative and win. With Miles we have to out score the other team like ASU. As good as our offense was in the ASU game we still would've lost without those special teams plays. Thats how bad our defense is, it was that bad last night also. Tennessee literally dropped the ball on what looked like huge plays, possibly td's.
You don't open up the playbook because you "have to", you do it because you CAN. You always should play to win and use all your resources. Reference Steve Spurrier, Pete Carroll, etc.
Just remember the game he said ler r rip OU got beat. That comment never impressed me. He should have sent Larry the plumber to say Get r done
I do not understand the offensive plan last night. Doesn't LSU have world class speed at wide receiver? I know for a fact at least one player has world class speed (See Bennie Brazell). Why did we not throw one fade or fly pattern. It's not like JaMarcus doesn't have a cannon arm. He threw the ball like 70 yds in the air effortlessly at the end of the game. The Tenn safeties were never further than 8 yds from the LOS. Why not for giggles did we not throw a long pass or a slant and up and at least keep the safeties honest. I know this sounds like Tuesday Night QB, but if you sat N14, I must have said that at least 1000 times last night and I am sure at least half that section heard me at least a couple. I was the obnoxious guy that almost had an anuerysm when they decided to play for OT with 2:02 left in the game. Then almost had a second aneursym, when after deciding to play for OT, foolishly throw a pass that fell incomplete and could have cost the game in regulation. A coach must have conviction, Saban would have never thrown the ball if he was playing for OT no matter how much the fans booed. He didn't care what people like or about making friends. He cared about winnning games. If he truly thought that playing for OT was the best chance to win, he would not have changed his mind to appease the crowd, therefore maybe costing his team a victory.
I'm beginning to question those that said Saban held Jimbo back, etc. because after last nights game, it's pretty obvious Saban didn't have anything to do with it. It's the OC's responsibility to call the plays. Sure, a play can be over turned by the head coach, but I don't think every head coach has to give the approval before each play. I think that in certain situations, the head coach may tell the OC, "I want to run here" and what not, but for the most part, Jimbo has control as to which play he's going to call. Now, if the plan after halftime was to run the ball 70% of the time, then yes, in that case, Miles' decision has an impact on what's called..
Jimbo looked like he did last year at times, the difference is he had Saban's defense. he can call it wild or mild, we've seen him show us some flea flickers and then he all but sits on the ball like a hen waiting for it to hatch. Somewhere in between is the answer. :dis:
And Jimbo knows it better than anyone. What's an OC going to do with a quarterback who doesn't understand how the clock works, gets sacked because doesn't know when to get rid of the ball, and just threw a costly, foolish interception? He dumbs down the offense. Jimbo has taken us to two SEC and one National Championships and sent five quarterbacks to the NFL. JR is big, strong, and has a cannon arm but he has not shown us YET that he can manage an offense and he hasn't taken us anywhere. Jimbo has to work with what he's got.
