Go find the NFL Films pieces on the Super Bowl, and listen to Henderson compared to the guy for the Colts. Now, you want to talk "nails on a chalkboard"....... The "pigs have flown, hell has frozen over" comment gets all the airplay, but he had another great one a few minutes later when saying that everyone would be up all night celebrating -- "Sleep is so overrated." Awesome.
I grew up in New Orleans. When Bum Phillips was done, he read a "night before christmas" type poem about the saints and the possible new hire of Jim Mora that was a classic. He did it on the evening news on CBS in New Orleans around Christmas eve. It was Garland Robinette, Angela Hill, Bob Breck weather, and Jim Henderson sports. Back then when Inside the NFL was somewhat new, they'd do a lot of Saint's highlights from games to music. I have a lot of those on VHS tapes. It's kind of strange and watch those dreaming of a winning season compared to now.
My favorite Henderson call is when the Saints won their first playoff game in franchise history. I was at that game and if you'll recall, the Rams were the defending Super Bowl champs and the height of 'The greatest show on turf.' The Saints had a big lead early, but the Rams closed the gap to 3 points late and forced the Saints to punt. I can tell you that there wasn't one single person in that Dome that didn't think the Rams were gonna get the ball back and score a TD with little or no time left to win the game - because we'd been the victim of that time and again. Then THIS happened. 'Hakim dropped the ball! Hakim dropped the ball!! Brian Milne might have fallen on it at the 10 yard line. (Voice cracking) It IS the New Orleans Saints football!!! Brian Milne - the most unlikely hero of them all - falls on the football - the muff by Hakim. There is a GOD after all" Doesn't get much better than that.
