Keepers are really hard to find, compadres. LSU is completely fucking spoiled by landing two in a row. Texas and Florida have far more financial resources than LSU with huge football programs and they couldn't find the coach they wanted. Alabama went through Shula, Price and Francionne before landing a keeper. LSU went through Archer, Hallman, and Dinardo before finding a keeper last time. It happens all over. Meechigan, Southern Californication, Aubarn, Notre Friggin' Dame. The chances are goddamn slim that LSU can simply land a sure winner unless they set one up in advance like FSU did with Jimbo and then cross their fingers because nothing is certain. Take a deep breath, minions. Live with some reality for an instant. LSU's problem is graduating too many juniors to the NFL for their own good. It ain't the worst problem to have, you know. It takes years to build up talent. We ain't got that problem. Making rookie mistakes is not only a problem that can be remedied, but it tempers metal in the fire. This team will continue to improve, possibly quickly. Deep down, none of you think this team cannot get it done. It's just a matter of time before things gel. We can live with a rebuilding year every now and then in return for the championship season every now and then. You have to take risks to beat the averages. Winning season 2014. Contenders again 2015. Don't worry. Be happy.
I thought Mettenberger was a senior... Just frustrated with the young team and early NFL enrollees argument, which glosses over the major issue (QB) IMO.
The problem with 3 of the 4 teams you mentioned is, they are not in the SEC. While storied programs yes, I think the lure of the SEC and the talent that LSU attracts could be a huge incentive for a big name coach. But you are absolutely right, nothing is guaranteed, we could end up with a Ferentz.
Alabama after Bear and Tenn since Fulmer had the same issues and Fla has been through it several times since Spurrier. That enough SEC teams for you?
We won 13 games without QB's one year. I think it would be good for Spencer Ware, Michael Ford, Chris Faulk, Trev Faulk and a few more that left early to enter the NFL, these guys would do well to talk with the players. Tell them what went wrong when they went out early. Since most don't have a job or a college degree. Now I know Trev is still in coaching. All his friends were telling him to go out. Everyone else was saying stay.
I won't even address the Miles thing but I'll say this about Harbaugh. The year before he went to San Francisco, they went 6-10 and had been down for a while. The year he shows up, they go to the NFC Championship Game and then follow that up consecutively with trips to the Super Bowl and then another NFC championship game. After all that, the niners don't want him. How big of an asshole do you have to be to have those results and be totally unwanted. I don't think he's a guy we would want at LSU in any way.
Miles has won most of his games without a QB. Think we'd be in a different stratosphere *with* a QB most of his tenure?
