Man, I can't believe how naive this is. It's isn't about whether or not we (collectively) approve of their culture or how they live their life. Radical islamists don't want to kill us because we are free - they want to kill us because we are not muslim and do not possess the same belief system as them. This is not just some theory someone has come up with - this comes straight from their mouths. It's an absolute shame you've bought into the concept of the US being the cause of many of the world's ills. If you truly believe "democratic capitalism" may not be right for the US, I would suggest finding a country that better fits your view, say China, North Korea or Cuba.
Well, they don't hate the Chinese, they don't hate the Canadians, etc. I've never heard of them calling anyone but the US "the Great Satan". Who else do the Muslim radicals rail against? And to answer your second question if they did their would probably be a nuclear exchange afterwords. I think we would win that, don't you? Also, if you think it's so easy to pull off such an operation what is the reason there has not been other terrorist attacks? You don't have to have WMDs to be an effective terrorist. Lastly, there are no examples of isolationist countries being victimized by terrorism that I am aware. This is a strong historical precedent. I would rather deal with historical precedent than hypothetical conjecture that lends itself to propaganda.
There are millions of people that are not Muslim and have radically different belief systems and they are not the victims of terrorism. The reason we are is because we are in their backyard trying to impose our culture on them. I don't blame them for resisting a foreign power in their country. You wouldn't want a foreign power in US territory, either. Why exactly are they supposed to submit to something any reasonable person would object to? This is just silly. I am a fan of democratic capitalism. My point was only that I am not sure if the US population supports my view anymore. Since we are a democracy I may be outvoted. And as far as the US foreign policy....well, it's not been helpful the last 10 years or so, in my opinion. We need to let the rest of the world grow up and take care of their own.
You have your definition of isolationists all wrong. Sanctions and trade embargos etc. etc are what create isolationists. I would rather have diplomacy and trade with nations. Screw all this nation building crap and entangling ourselves into their affairs. And yes assuming we keep giving them more motive there will be more attacks.
Democratic capitalism.. haha. It's a Republic you fool. And if you can't come to the conclusion that what the US does has a reaction your are just blind. Learn blowback. And here is yet another person stereotyping all muslims now want to kill us.. Proof? You guys swallow to much of Fox News.. I can't wait for this part of the Republican party to go into hiding.
well excuse me for using the wrong definition. and you skewed my question. so let me make it clear.... i said IF we were to leave the mid-east completely, and leave them all the f alone, let everyone over there handle their own affairs, and they STILL attacked us, what would your reaction be? THAT was the question.
I'm bored so I'll take another stab at it. If that did happen we would probably clobber them. And again, I have to ask why would they want to pick a fight with the most powerful country in the world? They are obviously outmatched. Who does this? I would like to see some example in history of obviously overmatched countries starting wars. Wars are started by people who think they can win them. Sometimes they misjudge their opponent but wars are started to be won, not lost.
What part of our culture were we imposing in 1988 provoking the Lockerbie bombing? You need to go back and take a look at the number of Americans who have been murdered by terrorists, and then seriously ask yourself if you think you would be spared because you think this terrorism is justified. Mistakes in US foreign policy goes way beyond the last 10 years; terrorism against the US didn't just start during the Bush administration. You are obviously in denial about the threat that faces all of us; that is, of course, until you become directly touched by it. Let the rest of the world grow up and take care of their own? Just like we should have done in 1941? We tried to be isolationists then; it didn't work.
I'm not the one who said it, you idiot. Go back and read the post I responded to before you resort to insults.
I'm pretty sure the Lockerbie bombing was because of the PLO/Israeli issue. Again, they don't blow up planes because of the Declaration of Independence. They blow up planes because of middle east politics. I'm not in denial of any threat. We stood down the Soviet Union for God's sake. They were 100 times the threat that Iraq or Iran is. You are in denial regarding US foreign policy. It has been hijacked by the Pro-Israeli/Neo-Con faction of the government. I'm not sure what your point is regarding 1941. The US was isolationist. We didn't even declare war on Germany from my understanding. They declared war on us.... US foreign policy should roll back our involvement in the affairs of other countries. The Cold War is over, bring back the troops and if anybody infringes on our national interests than I'm all for blasting them into the stone age.
