You know what they say. A girl should marry a guy with tattoos, because he has no fear of commitment!

Never for even one second in my life have I ever considered getting a tattoo. Nobody in my family has a tattoo. Very few people I have been friends with over the years had a tattoo. No woman I have had more than a casual relationship with has had a tattoo. I'm not prejudiced against people with tattoos (except for those stupid "sleeves" or tramp stamps) The only possible reason I could see for anybody wanted to adorn themselves with permanent subepidermal pigmentation is maybe a young guy who just joined the marines or the navy getting drunk on leave for the first time and wanting to look tougher or more manly. A marine tattoo or maybe an anchor like Popeye the Sailor man has on his arm.

While in general I think tattoos are a dumb idea there are a very few people who have a tattoo that fits them perfectly and is as much a part of them as an arm or a leg. The only person who comes to mind right now is the legendary Phil Brady, former owner of Phil Brady's Bar and long before that Magoo's on Chimes Street. Phil has a tattoo of the cartoon character Mister Magoo on his arm. The thing is that even in his 20's Phil looked like Mister Magoo. In his early 50's he looked even more like Mister Magoo. I haven't seen Phil in quite a few years but he would be about 67 or 68 now. I'm sure he really looks like Mister Magoo now.

I work with a a fairly dark skinned guy who has about 30 tats. He keeps a list of them in his wallet because he has a real hard time seeing and remembering them.

I accompanied my 16-year-old daughter to Vans Warped Tour a couple of weeks ago in Columbia, MD. Three of her friends, and another parent also went. The music is geared mainly for teens and 20-somethings, although I actually liked some of it and had a good time. I was astounded at the number of kids that had tattoos. I'm talking HS kids, and some with multiple tats. Back in my day (wow, I sound like my father now!) the only people that had tattoos that I can recall were mainly folks you wouldn't want to hang around with. Now, it seems like it's everywhere. The thing that gets me is these youngsters need to think ahead to when they're looking for a job. Some of the crazy tattoos would be sure to scare off any would-be employers...
