Not complaining about the winning percentage, just wondering what could be if we consistently had a quality QB and why obtaining one seems so difficult for such an established program.
It is quite perplexing. It's like the 8th Wonder of the Ancient World. How do you build such things with limited means- quarterback-wise.
It's not just us, All-Americans are few and far between. Plus we have gotten into two national championship games with fairly average quarterbacks and a third with mediocre quarterbacks. So, it ain't all about the QB either.
All American? Hell most teams have backups better than our starter on a yearly basis. And who said it was all about the QB? If it was Miles would have been fired years ago and these definitely wouldn't be considered the golden years of LSU football. The question is why do we struggle more than most to field a decent QB and what if over the last 10 years we had even average QB play?
I also post on a MMA board where we put up an annual college football thread. There is myself and about two other regulars from SEC country. While most are from the Big Ten and Big 12. Of course there was the SEC bashing and being overrated at every opportunity. I remember many times arguing about how dominant the SEC was because of their D. While especially the Big 12 and Pac 10 were all about putting up points. I remember someone saying the SEC D's are helped by the fact the SEC overall has poor QB compared to those conferences. I said well, the SEC BCS streak proves a great D is more important that a great O or QB. In '11 that LSU D would have easily stifled that Ok St O. LSU, Bama, and UF all won titles because of their D more than their O. THe SEC wins because of the dominance of the DL and OL. Plus we have more depth in the secondary. The SEC has sort of changed in recent years, the D's have not been quite as dominant. If Alexander and Hunter return next year I really think LSU will have another dominant D.
Who? I don't think we do struggle more than most. Fans complain about the quarterback everywhere. It goes with the job.
Ok, so this offense is a pro style offense. How many pro style offenses out there do you see that run with dual threat qb's? Alabama this year? All I can think of that the reason Blake is doing a decent job is because he is a 5th year senior. Our offense is predicated on the I formation power running with a fullback. I think this offense would be a lot more dynamic if it were a read option offense, but I'm glad it's not. I can't stand option based offenses, also this offense would gel with a pure drop back guy, but we don't have one. To me it's a science project and if Jennings was a 5th year guy or Harris was as well I think you would see something similar to what you see at Alabama this year. Or at least with more experience.
Also if we dont have two INT's right? dont forget about that. lol....1 out of every 8 of his passes were int's.
Wrong.....it's an O-line and running backs that led us to 3 straight SEC wins! QB had NOTHING to do with those wins.
