JJ played pretty well in the last half of the Bama game and all of the Ole Miss game. And at this point, he is clearly playing better than Lee but that is a very relative comparison. I appreciate the heart and courage it has taken for him to come back after the awful first half of the season and the victories he has helped LSU achieve. But I still don't think he is one of of the top 50 QB's in college football. And there is no way that a program of LSU's stature should be this weak in a key position.
Well he's made notable progress since Les went to the 2 QB system. Lets take a sip of optimism and hope that the progress continues and that by next season he is a polished, dangerous senior QB. Its not out of the question. As for Lee, I'm definitely not ready to write him off. Can't judge him on 1-2 series. He's led some incredible drives this season. In most games that he shared time with JJ, I thought JL looked the better QB--except Bama and Ole Miss. I'm guessing that JJ must be looking consistently better in practice than JL and thats why JJ has continued to get the majority of game minutes.
JJ's on-field demeanor has changed, IMO, since Bama...and it's been improving the past three or four games more or less. I think the competition at QB helped him (as it did JLee). It looks like the coaching staff is opening up the play book a little more as well, which I think would benefit either QB. JJ seems to have turned a corner...he's not a 'great' SEC QB, but he is playing with a lot more confidence than he was earlier in the season. I have to admit that I am surprised to see this, and I give the utmost credit to him and to CLM (and even GC if I am forced to) for his improvement (as slow as it was) over the year. It appears that JJ is our QB from here on out...and that maybe CLM was correct when he saw something in him that others' didn't. It also appears that JLee is ready to take over if necessary and has moved beyond the ghosts of his 'freshman' (redshirt) pick-six year. If this is the case, all the props in the world have to go to CLM (and even GC if I am forced to). I have never been a 'negatiger', but this season has thus far has surpassed my 'realitger' expectations for what this staff could accomplish with our current QB situation.
Jefferson isn't the only QB who stinks in a huge win. Freaking Drew Brees sucks big time. He threw TWO interceptions by forcing the ball into coverage...one of which was in the endzone when wecould have run it in. And Sean Patyon has to GO!! he has no OC and he gets too cutesey with his predictable playcalling. My grandmother can call the pass from the shotgun 99% of the time.....from the grave !!! The lucky Aints have even lost THREE games so far....Cleveland....sheesh !!!!! hihi
Lee has been servicable and has served his purpose well. If JJ struggles down the stretch I'm sure Miles will call on him again, hopefully he'll be ready. As for D Peterson those were some awesome plays down to the OL pulling to block his defender. My only complaint would be he should have put his body into the end of those runs. Just like in the Bama game he pulled up and ran it out of bounds. Also the pass to Chase was a thing of beauty.
Are you really comparing JJ to Brees and GC to Payton? If so Jamaican brownies must be the dessert of choice on your menu.
Sorry,I must have been eating too much Death Valley grass. I was trying to apply the standards used by many to judge Jefferson to Brees though. Not really referring to you in particular, just those general sentiments. After the ULM game, The Times Picayune led off the story about the game with the statement that LSU won despite their offense. I immediately thought 51-0...what problems? But to get back to the theme of the thread, JJ's really been improving considering how clueless he looked at the beginning of this season.
Yeah I'm not sure I agree with putting in Lee during ole miss. Jefferson was playing well so no need to switch it up really. The first time he came in was where JJ threw his INT and that is a good time to put Lee in but the times after that I'm not so sure on. But yeah I think in the Bama game D pete could have ran that guy over and got in the end zone but we scored a TD nevertheless. Yeah that pass from JJ to Chase bout made me shed a tear it was so purdy.
The positive though was that Miles and GC both realized that JJ was our best option, and quickly decided to quit rotating in Lee for the most part. My fear as I watched JJ's success was that they were going to keep forcing that issue, which could have caused us to lose.
by the way, Jordan Jefferson named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for LSU football | NOLA.com
