Quarterback Jordan Jefferson persuaded the coaches to let him hand off to Scott instead of putting the ball in the air. They were sure glad he did.

"I would rather give it to Charles and let him pound it in there," said Jefferson, who was 18 of 27 for 212 yards. "Charles is a big power back. I didn't want to pass it. That situation required a running play. I saw the hole, and once he hit it, I knew it was a TD."

Interesting. I am not sure what to say.

someone posted that earlier, and it makes me wonder if that mentality is why JJ took so many sacks. He looked scared to pull the trigger when he was sacked, and there were people open. Doesn't it seem like he is scared of losing the game.

Well that's exactly what it tells me.

And that's not a good thing.

Yeah, in some ways I too dont like that comment. If it were done out of pure teams best interest, but I agree. I think a lot of the problems could be him scared to make a mistake and throw a possible INT or pick six like last year. It does appear a lot of time JJ "thinks" too much, thats when he is off. While when he is in the flow and no thinking he looks great. Even if he doesnt try to put one in there he has to learn to not be a deer in headlights and just throw it away.

I think the same way. The only thing I'd point out is that he's still young and he most likely doesn't feel comfortable with the game on his shoulders yet. I can't fully fault him for that. He wanted to hand the ball to our SENIOR RB, who SHOULD be able to carry the team when needed.

I'm glad it all worked out. I couldn't be happier for Scott. He deserves it.

thats funny i was telling my friend as it was going down the coaches arent going to let jj lose it or take a sack. and we would see scott run it.

little did i know it was his decision.

but really thats a good thing. he played within himself and realized he was overthrowing or behind maybe because of nerves.

like the above guy said, id rather him think than not think.

he'll be ok. its gonna slow down for him before the season is over. in the meantime he's 5-0 with ojt.

It's the equivalent of a SS thinking "I hope they don't hit it to me" when the game is on the line. We need someone who wants the ball when the game is on the line. I hope it's just youth and that he is still is a little unsure of his abilities. Or perhaps he saw how rabid our fans can be.. and that scared him a little bit

I've gotta respect him for not hurting the team and trying to do to much -- but the times going to come when he's going to have to make a play whether he is ready or not.

Remember what Darryl Royal said: "When you throw the ball, there's three things that can happen and two of them are BAD."

I was sorta hoping we'd give it to Scott, who is usually reliable with ball handling, but I NEVER thought he'd take it to the house! I think that's the loudest I've ever cheered a play. Man, THAT was exciting!

Chuck the Truck is back on the road. And that's a good thing, Martha. :geaux:

Jefferson said. "I recommended we run it. I didn't want to pass the ball in that situation and throw a pick that would keep us from getting points."

It's admirable.. but confidence means a TON at that position.
