There is no excuse for the entire debacle, BUT after watching this video several times, I do tend to agree with you Kerry. His motion looks more like he's saying "he was down, he was down, he was down", as the OM player is holding up the ball. That was at the immediate end of the play. No one was setting up yet to run the next play. The ball was not snapped for another 20+ seconds. What happened between that point and the snap is what caused JJ to "clock it". Now, CLM may or may not have given that order, but I don't think this video is of that order being given. I still see the possibility that CLM is telling the truth that he didn't give the "clock it" order.

And before anyone flames me, I am in no way apologizing for the coaches in this mess. It shouldn't have come to this because with one minute to go, we should have run, run, TO, kick the winning field goal on 3rd down.

Good point. That didn't occur to me. Thing is, why would CLM out and out lie? What does he have to gain by that?

That's my point. As questionable as some of the things he's done are, I have to believe that he wouldn't let a kid take the fall for something like this if he really made the call. Maybe I just have too much faith in people, but that's what I believe now, unless and until I see other "proof". LSU!

He may have been honestly confused -- but the blame still falls on him.

And about that timeout that took so long to call, how in the world, in a close game like this, do you THINK you call the timeout? Why isn't every coach on our staff in the ref's face making damn sure he knows you want a timeout? Just unbelievable.:insane:

Yea I don't know but after watching this numerous times I don't think it was a spike call but his way of signaling and saying the player was down.

Of course many probably don't want to hear it or see it that way but it sure looks like it based on what was going on at the time.

Still shouldn't have come to that though.

On WWL tonight the Big Chief interviewed the WBRZ reporter that filmed the video there are 2 things to point out from his interview.

He said that once the ref signaled that it was an LSU first down Miles was still making the sign for the spike at least 4 to 5 more times.

AND he put a clock on the video from the time that the ref signaled that it was an LSU first down until the ball was set it took 25 secs and there was also at least 5 secs before the ref signaled the 1st down.

5 seconds left on the clock is a completely different premise than 1 second left on the clock, isn't it?

Are you saying 4 seconds were allowed to tick off of the clock between the time the player was down and actually ruled down?

+1 The best summation of the CLM era I have read on this board.

Times have changed. At the beginning of the season some would have threatened to ban you for that comment.
