a "shoulder injury" like hatch had last year...

medical red shirts are so lame...

just get some scope in the offseason to clean up your knee, then claim that kept you out all year.

Injures and recovery time are so subjective it's almost impossible to police it. What takes one athlete a few weeks to come back from could take another months. Also, a lot of guys come back much quicker then they should and just play through the pain. Should that be the standard? On top of that you have various doctors and trainers opinions on when a player is ready. It's really hard for the NCAA to say what is considered "season ending".

I wonder how much of this injury is real. Or is this just to cover his tracks for playing him against North Texas.

Do they wait until the end of the year to give out the redshirt or is will the desicion come soon???

Imagine if you will Hatch and Lee getting taken out by injury JJ with a redshirt in hand because of an injury is SUDDEN healed by Steve Martin in a old tent somewhere in North Louisiana and comes in to play the next game for the tigers!

    From BB11's article:

It seems that if we maintain 2 healthy QBs the rest of the year, JJ will get redshirted. Of course with all the QBs coming to town and Lee maturing, we will get crowded at that position.

Thats what I was asking is the redshirt given before the season is over or during the season.

What if say they give it him now and then at Bama both Lee and Hatch go down. Will the NCAA remove the redshirt to let him play eventhough his injury is "season ending"?

    OR

Does the redshirt get given AFTER the season is over?

The redshirt is granted at the end of the year if the requirements are met. Not sure when the decision is made about the injury but the NCAA does not need to "remove" a redshirt for him to play. He could play anytime, he just loses his eligibility to redshirt.

Even then, it isn't technically a redshirt. It's a medical hardship waiver, and the NCAA can always say no to the request.

with Hatch and Lee being young i dont really think we should redshirt him especially since we can get many many recruits down the road who are better

imagine this LSU has a spot at QB who wants to play here

5 star recruits "me me me"
