Barring a major injury to either Hatch or Lee...Jefferson will red shirt this season due to a shoulder injury suffered during the Miss St game.

    sounds good to me

    Link?

He's already played this season. Can he still redshirt?

Here is a quote from Dandy Don's site this morning:

He only played in two games and has a documented injury, I think there is still a possibility.

I think you can redshirt an injured player IF he was injured in the first couple of games. I'm not sure if the 4th game of the season qualifies.

I think this is one of the most misunderstood rules in CF.

The rule is if an athlete plays in a single snap during the season he cannot receive a redshirt for the year. This is the official answer that all coaches will give you when asked.

Then there is the loop hole. If you sustain an injury in the first half of the season and play less than a certain % then you can receive a redshirt also. Coaches often use this as way to redshirt players even though they may have played a couple snaps. The injury is supposed to be "season ending" but as long as it's documented that is pretty much all you need. Essentially like getting a doctors note to miss school.

What has happened over the years is people see freshman play in the first couple games then redshirt. This leads to speculation and eventually to incorrect statements such as, "you can play in non conference games and still redshirt"

Ya, that makes sense and sounds right. I knew there was some loophole. Actually, come to think of it, Tubberville has been accused of purposely abusing this rule by getting his true freshman in early season games and then some mysterious injury sidelines them for the rest of the season. Im surprised more coaches dont try and do that.

The NCAA did have a 1st 3 game rule in previous years but was changed 2 or 3 years ago.

Sounds like Miles does this too.

Technically he has already lost his redshirt but he can apply for a medical hardship. Every coach does it usually for a handful of players to get them game experience.

edit: didnt see pharpes post. what he said.
