Agreed, and as much as the deep ball needs to open up for him, his bigger area of concern for me is being able to hit the recievers in stride. He keeps throwing and having have to stop their momentum to catch. In many plays if he had hit them in stride, their momentum would have accounted for greater yardage on the play. By having them stop their stride the defenders key in on the play and limit the success of what could have been the outcome. This, to me, is my biggest concern for him.
Guilbeau's article today had quotes from two LSU WRs, both seniors: ... Jefferson is also not telegraphing his passes and not always going to the original primary receiver, which was a problem Lee had. "He's hit me when I was the check-down receiver," R.J. Jackson said. "I was the second and sometimes third option, and he just happened to find me. That just goes to show you the maturity of Jordan -- for him to go through his reads one through three. 'OK, that's not there. Let me go through the check downs.' That speaks tons on him because a lot of people don't do that, and he's just a sophomore." Jefferson has also shown some savvy at the line of scrimmage before the play. In the first quarter Saturday, an intermediate route was called to wide receiver Brandon LaFell. But Jefferson noticed the cornerback was in man-to-man coverage without safety help. He changed the play and threw a quick screen to LaFell, who easily faked out the cornerback and sprinted 16 yards for a touchdown. LaFell said: "I think that shows how much Jordan is growing up. That was not something we could have done last year. Jordan knows his receivers now and knows what he's doing. Jordan is learning a lot very quickly and knows a lot more than he did even in the Washington game." http://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20090923/SPORTS0202/909230326/1028/rss05
YES! You cannot open up a can of QB and have a finished product ready to go. This is the SEC, not Division III.
Something about his mechanics and release make me very curious about whether he's going to be the "cannon" that some folks think he can be. Long throwing motion and his long throws seem like launches rather than passes. I've never played QB so I don't know. I'm very interested to see if he becomes a deep ball threat. With his other skills, if he can hit wideouts downfield in stride, then he will be PHENOMENAL! A fairly mobile QB who has all the tools. As a minimum, though, he needs to be able to consistently hit the 30 yarder.
No, it wasn't. At least not where I was tailgating. The forecast for this past Saturday was 20%-30% chance and it was a beautiful day for the ULL game. You sure you're not thinking about Vandy??
Glad you confirmed that, Red.. I thought maybe I started drinking and went to the wrong game for a minute there.. lol
I sometimes forget that Denham Springs is 20 miles from T.S.. It rained on me that day. When I saw what APPEARED to be water droplets kicking up behing the receivers I just deduced it had been raining there, too.
