Right now, this is the only thing stopping us from being a very good team - Jefferson's ability to throw the long ball. IMO, if we could do this effectively it would make our OL & running game look a whole, whole lot better. Jefferson's stats continue to look pretty good, but not great. However, he's doing it all in the short to intermediate game. Luckily, we have some very talented WR's that are making moves & moving the chains for us. This won't be effective against Bama or Florida. We NEED to have the deep pass threat to open up our offense. I thought we would see that develop this weekend, but what we saw was the opposite. Although we tried it several times, it was terribly ineffective. We all praise JJ for not making mistakes & "not losing the game for us", but Lee is the far superior QB for making pass plays down the field. I'm wondering if he doesn't come in the games more... It's not like this is JJ's only flaw as a QB, but it's the main one preventing this team from being as successful as it could be. The coaches have a tough situation right now at QB... we're 3 games in, and the first 3 are when we're supposed to improve the most. We have improved, but not enough to be a top caliber team. If we don't develop the ability to go deep it will be another frustrating season. Edit: We can merge this with the other thread - didn't notice it.
Even tho I like JL and I think he is a better QB than he showed at times last season. I agree with this statement. I will take the short game that is consistant, and puts the ball in our playmakers hands. Than have some one that has touch on the deep ball, and can have some 50 yard plus completions.
yes because if he can release it quick enough (JJ has proved he can) the short game is just as effective.
With 8-9 playing up on the WRs and up on the line those quick dump offs are making negative or no yards a ton of the time. Yes you want to just get the ball to your play makers but as soon as you get to the guy and he has three guys already on him that isn't going to work. That "get it to your playmakers" phrase is so over used, you have to still get it to them where they have a chance to make a play. How many times now have I seen LaFell catch the ball behind the line and get swarmed? Unless he is Houdini it's going to be tough. Sure they might be able to make a couple of plays like TT has done but most of the time they have people tight on them. It's not the deep ball that is going to be the problem from what I can tell. It's the 12-17 yard patterns over the middle that you throw from the pocket. To be honest the OC is messing up more than Jefferson. I remain suspect on Jefferson just like I was before the year started but he should be given a chance... right now he is not been given a chance to improve.
I believe over time our playmakers (with all the talent we have) would break away more than not on those types of plays
