Sorry but rollouts are not going to cut it in the SEC. Every team figured it out early last year, I said before the year started teams would protect against the rollout to the right and eventually he will have to pass from the pocket. Jefferson is good enough to get you 7-10 wins a year with the talent as high as LSU around him. With that said you are going to have 2-4 games a year where the QB is going to have to get back in the pocket and get rid of the ball quickly, on time and hit the WR in STRIDE if you want to go from a top 5 team in the conference to the number 1 team in the conference. Unless LSU has a top 3 defense next year... I am talking points and yards then I expect to see 3-5 losses, hoping I am wrong to the upside. Crowton has been the #1 killer for this offense, he has been a defensive coordinators wet dream. I was actually encouraged by what I saw in the spring game....if that continues the offense shouldn't look as bad as last year. - stop the substitution BS with specific plays - run more pitch tosses - stop sending all the WRs deep with no dump off routes - stop with that option crap with Jefferson especially to the short side of the field - run more cross routes over the middle - stop with the 20 WR screens plays a game
Given all that you have stated, and JJ got 9 wins as a starter with ZERO run game and the problems that JJ had, do you still think with any decent run game we would honestly lose 5 games? I know JJ has problems, and I am sure the kid has become better in certain areas. Fact is none of us know or will know until the 1st game of the season. Though some key factors last season that played in JJ looking bad could be spread out evenly across the O. Now I am not trying to ignore JJ's faults, but how many times did we discuss poor routes, dropped passes and poor O'line blocking. All of this and also including NO RUN GAME put EVERYTHING on JJ's shoulders. Not a single player stepped up last season.. Again, I know JJ has issues like you stated, but lets not forget what he did accomplish by himself most of the time. JJ is not a star QB, but he managed the game enough to give LSU 9 wins... I firmly believe that if we can rush for 100+ every game, we will all see a completely different JJ..
We need drastically improved WR and OL coaching to make a lot of that wish list work, which I'm hoping Gonzales can provide some of. Those pitches won't work if receivers and tight ends can't hold their blocks. Why we seldom run plays with a dumpoff receiver or halfback I can't understand, especially with a QB with conservative passing tendencies like Jefferson.
Neither are Compton. JJ was throwing against 2 lockdown corners in spring game - something bama will get to do. Great corners will make everyone struggle. They will be playing on Sundays when they leave LSU.
Actually I think Tennessee won the title with Tee Martin the season after Manning left. But your point it well taken.
I think that's exactly what he was saying. Manning leaves, Martin takes over, Tenn is NC (although FSU was without Weinke in the game; a caveat most don't remember). Russell leaves, Flynn takes over, LSU is NC.
Na, that's not what I meant. Part of that post was a bit of humor, really. Maybe part of me feels sorry for the guy, too. But I do believe he has the talent. And for what it's worth, there was a good number of passes that got picked off in '08 and the team just watched the defender run by them with the ball rather than tackling the guy. There were also a number of good plays by defenders. I'm not saying he didn't make bad throws, but I don't think people would have disowned him like they did had those int's not been returned for TD's... That's the unlucky part. Not to mention he was thrown into the perfect storm. Maybe I should have used the term unfortunate, but that really wouldn't have fit into my apparently unsuccessful attempt at humor. All of that said, I'm definitely not against starting Jefferson. I think it's Jefferson's job to lose. He's a big boy now and nobody can say "he's still young". I think Miles knows this too and wants to give him the opportunity to drive this team like it needs to be driven.. Jefferson seems to me like the equivalent of a little old lady that's driving 20 mph on the interstate in a 800 hp muscle car. She knows the car will go faster, but she just can't control it at those speeds. Jefferson knows what this offense is capable of, but I'm not certain he can run it that way. All that said, I don't think Lee's a complete lost cause as most seem to. If at the end of the summer camp, he looks as good or better than Jefferson does with regards to establishing a rhythm, making reads, and getting plays off, then the coaches should definitely find a way to get him in the game, especially if Jefferson continues to be mediocre at best, as he has been.
Whoops, my bad! I misunderstood the numbering in the post. I've been right all along, too much studying is bad for you.
