I don't. There's a reason there has been a step back in confidence in JJ. However, I will agree, his play tonight was an improvement. I didn't have a "WTF?!" moment--at least in terms of JJ's play. Agreed that the offensive play-calling wasn't explosive. It's what it had to be, IMO. Nothing more. It was obvious that the coaching staff protected JJ from any further criticism. He performed well with the plays he was given. I would have liked to see Lee enter the game after Jasper's last FG to make it 29-7. Just because JJ didn't have a "WTF?" moment this week, doesn't mean he can't/won't, and I just feel that at the least, with all the frustration surrounding JJ's play early on, it would have been wise to get Lee some meaningful plays--to see exactly where you stand with him and not simply speculating that he's the answer. But...a win is a win. The defense was lights out...again! :thumb: Offensively, I know there are a LOT of people that will be upset about the seeming lack of production--but that's because of our defense. We were in great field position almost all game. FINISHING drives with TD's instead of FG's is another issue...but kudos to Jasper. Well-played, kid. Congrats on the record.
When you watch the game again look downfield.. he missed alot of open guys downfield when he scrambled instead.
He did okay. But we won't win 11 games with no threat of a passing game. It's an absolute travesty that an LSU offense consistently cannot get 100 passing yards a game. If our run game were really dominant, I wouldn't mind. But, we ain't running no triple option or anything... Matt Flynn and Matt Mauck could at least be called on to throw for 250 yards and 3 TD's if needed. I wouldn't trust JJ to throw more than 150 yards. Not hating, but they were much more than game managers. JJ is holding the offense back. He's efficient in what he does, but we saw what Crowton did with an experienced QB in Flynn and it is a lot more than with JJ. I appreciate JJ's efforts, but we are in for a rude awakening once we play a team with talent and effort to match ours.
The plan was to wear down Mississippi State, and put them away in the second half with a solid running attack, which will open up the field a little bit for some throws downfield. Great gameplan, but this isn't going to work against the cream of the crop in the SEC. Jefferson made some good throws tonight, especially in the 3rd quarter, and early 4th. Our special teams is outstanding. 2 out of 3 games our average starting point is our 48 yard line. That is ridiculous, and you can put that on Patrick Peterson. Coaches kick to him, he gets a great return, they try and kick it away, and end up kicking it out of bounds. Defense played out of their minds tonight. Tyrann Mathieu is maybe the best true freshman year i have ever seen i think for a defensive back. 5 turnovers forced tonight, not too many sacks, but the int's we did get were a result of the pressure we put on the quarterback. As far as Jefferson, i saw some improvements, and i would like to think that they would open the playbook a little more, but they are obviously not confident in him. He had a great read on the defensive end, when he had his touchdown run, and threw some good passes in the 2nd half, but like i said, he has to get way better. You can tell Miles has so much faith in the defense that he is content to play ultra conservative, run the ball, smash it down their throats, and then put em to bed late in the game. Oh and Peterson for Heisman.
No offense, but you gameplan differently for every opponent. It SHOULD go without saying that what works against one opponent doesn't on the others and vice-versa. You said it best: "great gameplan" We won 29-7 over an opponent we were favored to beat by only 8. Great gameplan this week. End of story. We'll see how they do against WVU.
It's a great point. Something to think about...JJs best statistical games are mostly games that were very close and fairly high scoring games. We HAD to throw more. It's evident that when they let him play, he is a better QB. Sometimes they HAVE to let him play. Tonight and last week weren't those times. The game was in hand the whole time. The one time MSU threatened, they opened it up a little and JJ executed well. I...like all of us...wish they'd let him play more often.
