Because Lee can pass. Jefferson has been a very average passer so far. Every other position rotates in reserves, the QB position should be no different.
Well, obviously Miles isn't in disagreement with you based on last year. I just think it can crush momentum screw with on field leadership. I don't even really like the Ryan Perrilloux stuff we did. I'm good with the wildcat, obviously. More of that, please! I dunno. I like Lee. But I just think it's worth giving JJ the challenge of growing as a passer - he can be a more complete QB. Bringing Lee in will keep that from happening.
I really need to see him do more in 2nd half of ball games. In his 3 starts in the 2nd half. Against Arkansas he had an early 3rd quarter touchdown pass to Brandon Lafell, against GA Tech, a big goose egg, against UW he had 2 touchdown passes in the 2nd half, 1 to Tolliver and 1 to Lafell, improvement, and then no touchdown passes at all vs. Vandy. Is this coaching just going vanilla in the 2nd half? In the last 4 games, which Jefferson has started, LSU has scored 82 points in the first half of games, and 34 points in the 2nd half of games.
yeah and if completing passes to the other team counted his qb rating would be off the charts, along with his completion percentage.
My words exactly! JJ seems to be cool and collective in tuff situations. Pryor crumbled against USC. Also think JJ is a good fit for the Tigers..:tigereye:
I have to say he was excellent in the Peach Bowl, not just okay. The whole team played great, but so did he. I think he was 11/12 in the first half with a TD and some great runs and throws. And he was passing down the field very well with really accurate passes. He didn't need to do anything in the second half because it was 35-3 at half. Also, I think that 87-yard bomb TD to LaFell was called back for some reason in the 2nd half. I can't remember the penalty though. I agree that they need to open it up. There were a couple of attempts. He misfired on one toward the end zone (can't remember the reciever) and he attempted another one to Dickson where Dickson had his man beat but he grabbed and held Dickson and another Vandy player came over and intercepted it. It was called back obviously. Lee can pass? Yeah, sometimes. So can Jefferson. The problem I saw with Lee was that a good number of his passes came nowhere near any receiver and so when they were intercepted (many times), there was nobody there to tackle and they'd take it to the house for a TD. It could be why they're so cautious about throwing downfield early with Jefferson. But Jefferson throws the ball with a lot of zip and his short passes are generally on the money and much harder to intercept. Lee could not throw screens or even short passes last year. When he did, he'd basically lob the ball and they'd either pick it off, come very close to getting it or nail our receiver who was waiting too long on the ball. Now, I don't care how Auburn was last year. They played extremely hard against us on D and he did a great job in that game after that int. for a TD. It was a real tough environment and he did really well. And I'm very thankful for that performance. He does put a real nice touch on some of his long passes. But he was either in the zone or he was out of it in a way where he would give your team no chance last year. Jefferson has been pretty consistent so far and he offers you that other dimension with running that makes LSU's O much more difficult to defend. So unless Jefferson changes for the worse, I'd give him nearly all the snaps. If we get up by four or five TDs against the Cajuns, Lee should definitely get in the game and take a good number of snaps in case Jefferson is injured in the future.
have you seen jefferson throw the ball-- it has some zip but he rarely has a nice sprial-- its all caddywampus-and it messes up the receivers timing-- pryor aint that great a thrower either
I take Jefferson. JJ, by all accounts thus far, seems to be a VERY level-headed and upstanding individual. Never has there been ANY HINT of negativity surrounding JJ. Not from a teammate perspective, not from a leadership persepective and certainly NOT from an individual perspective. The only things I've heard spoken about JJ (other than his talents on the field which we're all aware of at this point) has been how GOOD OF A PERSON he is. It's those things that set him apart from Pryor. We HAD a Pryor-type QB: uber talented but often out-spoken to the point of distraction. That QB is playing for Jacksonville State. So, I'll take JJ each and every day.
thats a great word. is this one of those old words like my grandmama may have used but no one has since. like when she said skidaddle instead of gtfo or grampa is besotted instead of being drunk. we should bring this quaint word back if so.
IMO, Pryor doesnt have the skill players surrounding him like he would down in BR. I think he could have the potential to be deadly in our semi spread offense and with our skill players. Doesn't take anything away from what I think JJ can/will do.
