This is not all the way true. Some backups are kept around because they're future coaches. Hell Jason Garrett had a long career as a backup and he sucked. Now he's coaching the Cowboys. But when you have guys who accept being backups but excel at other stuff like analyzing film, signaling plays, coaching type stuff, teams keep them around at a veteran minimum non-guaranteed contract with no bonuses and groom them for coaching in the future. Mark Brunell is still a backup in the NFL. His arm is gone and he sucks. Probably the worst backup in the league. But the coaches and owners like him and they know he has financial issues, so he remains. JJ and JL both have a shot if they don't go in thinking they can start early. If they find a niche, who knows?
Jefferson could play tight end without experience, i.e. Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham. Don't see it happening though.
Jefferson cannot read defenses. He locks on a receiver and that's it. He has raw talent. Maybe WR? He's fast enough and a good athlete.
Now there is a JL to the NFL. This is even a bigger failure. Did anyone see Lee drop a poop in his pants during the Bama game. I like Lee a lot, but if thinks Bama hits hard imagine what Palamalu (sp?) would do to him. Or when Lee throws off his backfoot, I think Revis of the Jets could eat a sandwhich waiting for that ball. No JJ maybe as a WR or TE. I seriously doubt JJ is great breaking down film just hunch based on the fact if his primary is covered he panics and starts running and I have never seen him read a defense and make a call to change the play to a hot route, its check off to a HB dive. Both great kids but both of them will not be playing football after Jan 9th.
Well just to be fair JL is not smart enough either. These two qb's have had four years of college to showcase their abilities. While they have done well this year they have both shown they don't have the smarts to play at the next level.
Why does everyone try and convert a qb to TE? I think it only happened one time in the history of the NFL and it was that coke head qb from ark I think he is in jail now. WR more likely however Jefferson will only play qb maybe a trick play or two where he lines up wide but for the most part he will be dropping back looking off safety and lb's changing plays at the line pointing out the mike and sam lb after his third or forth read is covered he will tuck and run. This guy will be threading the needle for years to come can't wait!
Actually the Coke Head Matt Jones transitioned to WR not TE. He was pretty good to until he decided to be Tony Montanya... I hated that guy, he was so fast for a big white guy. I remember in our games against him I would say "How can you not catch that guy"
You don't really believe this line of chit do you? Looking off safeties and checking to his third and fourth receiver, really? Who is doing this? Jj? When has he ever done this? Do you have a jj bighead and a pair of purple and gold pom poms?
It's happened more than that. Big quarterbacks rarely have NFL wide receiver or DB speed and moves. But they can bulk up a bit and become effective receiving tight ends and sometimes running backs.
