17 seasons, first ballot hall of famer more than likely My lasting personal memory of Jeff Kent will be the 3 run homer in the bottom of the 9th inning vs Jason Isringhausen in the 2004 NLCS vs St. Louis that gave the Astros a 3-2 advantage heading back to St. Louis. The game was tied 0-0 at that point. Brandon Backe with the best game off his professional career, given the circumstances.
the astros caravan's biggest star was brandon backe. says it all right there. props to jeff kent. always underrated because he was an odd dude and never really got along with his teammates but phenomenal bat for a middle infielder. never shaved the porn stash either. mega props for that.
Being debated on sports talk radio today. Cowherd shredded him up pretty bad for his attitude and dealings with teammates and media and not really having a good glove. I haven't really evaluated his career enough to know if he belongs in HOF or not.
Well Tim Kirk-chin, who I trust a lot more than Cowherd, said Kent had a better glove than he was given credit for. He was a reliable fielder but just didn't have great range or a terrific arm. The offensive numbers are just too much to overlook. The only question is whether he is first ballot HOFer.
being we dont get espn on the local rabbit ears any longer, i dont hear cowherd but i figured he would be arguing that. Its a fair argument because his glove was not a strong-point but he wasnt near as bad as some claim. also, Im sure rome is discussing his stash as well.
I'm not sure he belongs in the HOF. Was he really good? Yes. He is a Hall of Famer? I dunno. He put up good numbers for a long time, so he'll probably get in. When may depend on who else is on the ballot. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
FYI, Peter Gammons said today that Kent would be a first ballot HOFer without a doubt. Kinda surprised me he was that clear cut about it. I thought it was more borderline.
