Gavin Webster -- class of 2010 Anybody know the scoop on this kid? Last night, during the 2A and 3A Louisiana State Championship games in the Dome, he was easily the most impressive kid out there -- much more impressive as an athlete that Joe McKnight's little brother junior Jonathon Mcknight (who returned a punt 53 yards for a TD and had a INT), and more much more impressive as an athlete than John Curtis senior RB/LB Kenny Cain (who was MVP of the 2A Title Game after rushing for 78 yards and 3 TDs and catching for 42 yards -- Cain is rated the #56 RB in the nation by Rivals and the #41 WLB in the nation by Scout). Junior Gavin Webster (5'11, 210) was awesome as QB for Lutcher (who won the 3A State Championship with a 17-0 victory over Notre Dame). According to MaxPreps.com, Webster had 1,714 yards passing and 1,024 yards rushing this year (as of Dec 5, 2008). LINK Last night, he won game MVP. At the end of the first quarter, he was 7 of 8 for 92 yards and one TD. At halftime, he was 13 of 18 for 194 yards and one touchdown. He finished the game 17-of-26 for 243 yards, 2 TDs and zero ints. He also rushed for 55 yards on 18 tries. His TDs included a 26-yard TD pass and a 20-yard TD pass. He also had a 43-yard pass and 27-yard pass. All this was against a very impressive Notre Dame defense. Notre Dame is a 3A powerhouse, they were 3A champs in 2000, and 3A runner-ups in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2008. Notre Dame's problem last night was they had no offense, because their star QB got injured and they were relying on a sophomore QB who was starting for only his second time. According to Dandy Don's update today: Les Miles and a couple of his coaches attended the two state championship games [2A and 3A] in the Louisiana Super Dome [last night]. ... Lutcher has a great junior quarterback in Jarvis Webster who will be a national recruit in 2009. Lutcher quarterback Gavin Webster (15) is tackled by Notre Dame's Hunter Stover (35) during Friday night's Class 3A state title game at the Superdome. Named the game's MVP, Webster passed for 243 yards and two TDs as Lutcher beat the Pios, 17-0.
John, although some are ragging on you about your posts from google and wikipedia etc. I want to let you know I really appreciate it. I don't feel like doing all the homework myself... AND since i'm not googling it gives me more time oogling the girls that Tirk posts. Thanks both John and Tirk!!
Also, I actually went to the games and saw the kid with my own eyes. I he was the most impressive athlete out there last night. Today, we have the 1A, 4A, and 5A State Championships. At least the 4A and 5A games will be televised on CST. There is some more talk about this thread -- http://www.tigerforums.com/showthread.php?t=79820
I forgot that Dandy Don always gets his names mixed up. The kids name is Gavin Webster, not Jarvis Webster... it appears I am not allowed to modify the thread title to correct it.
Another kid to watch from Lutcher is sophomore WR Jarvis Landry (6'0, 190). According to MaxPreps, he had 807 receiving yards and 363 rushing yards (9.81 average per carry) this season (as of Dec 5). LINK In their state championship victory last night, he finished with 8 catches for 119 yards, and 1 TD -- and 8 rushes for 52 yards (6.5 average). Pics of Landry (#80):
Can Webster play another position because he may not get consideration for QB because of his height and the fact that we just got Sheppard and Garrett? I believe.
The other kid I liked on Lutcher's team was senior Dexter McCoil (6'6, 171). He was extremely fast, it was fun watching them send him after the QB on a blitz. He was an All-State safety last season as a junior. This season, he had 141 tackles. Scout ranks him as the #89 WLB in the country.
According to the announcers, Webster wears #15 because he, like his idol Tebow, is a southpaw running QB. When asked if he'd like to go to Florida he said "definitely". Lutcher is solid LSU Tiger territory. I'd hate to see the Urbanator steal one from there.
I do not see him getting a QB offer to LSU or UF for that matter. Seems like he will be a guy who will get some interest from smaller schools as a QB but could move to WR or DB and possible get bigger offers down the road if he has a solid year next year.
