There is no guarantee that Lee will perform better than Jefferson. But it is clear that Jefferson has serious issues that he has not gotten past. We need to see if Lee has gotten past his. There is no reason at all to have depth at quarterback if the reserve never gets in the game, even when the starter is performing badly.
I wouldn't be suprised if JL starts against Miss State next week. The game is at LSU which wouldn't be as much pressure if playing on the road. Another thing it would be a wake up call to Jefferson if he hasn't felt the urgency yet. I know Lee has had some horrible throws in the past. One throw comes to mind against Auburn in the 2008 season where he saw an Auburn player in front of a reciever pumped faked it to him and threw in straight to him anyway for a pick 6. One of the worst plays by a quarterback I have ever seen. With that being said, I would still give JL another chance because JJ played so poorly and it is possible he has improved. I think JL should be given another chance.
I also remember him throwing a lot of touchdowns and completed passes, and saving the day in that very same game you mention...his FIRST significant PT in P&G, BTW. If we had a defense that year, we would have ended the season 11-2, and the Fl and Ga games would not have been nearly as bad. I'll take that. Wouldn't you? That being said, JJ has shown great potential as well...but IMO, he's simply overthinking. To start the UNC game, he threw a few quick slants that were just beautiful. No hesitation. No overthinking. Just throw it and trust your receivers. The TD to RR was the same. Throw it to where it's supposed to go and trust the receiver. Do your job, he'll do his. IDK what happened to him against Vandy. I'm hoping it's a blip in the radar. If not, time for a change. I'm perfectly fine with JL playing. I have a strong suspicion that he would be an improvement, if for no other reason than the fact that he would force LSU back into more of a pro-style offense...like it should be. IMO, I think this team would excel in a pro-style attack with a stingy defense.
Agreed. It's been 2 years since the pick six fiasco and Lee deserves a shot, even if only a couple of possessions here and there. Yeah he looked bad against La Tech last year, but the same people that want to hold on to that are saying JJ's bad performance this week is a fluke. It's one or the other, not both. People also seem to forget that in 2008, he threw for almost 2000 yards (to our team, at that!! ). If the interception problem was due to being green, young, nerves, etc... then we should see if he's matured over the last two years and worked through it. Because if he has, then it could get very scary for opponents very quickly. If not, you play him till he screws up and put JJ back out. Rinse, repeat as necessary. Bottom line is, 97 yards passing against the likes of Vandy ain't gonna cut it. And with 2 games into the season, it's getting increasingly difficult to see where Jefferson improved over last season. We all know he's got the talent, I'm just not sure if he knows it yet.
Thats true, JL did lead us back in that game. He didn't have to bad of a game either going 11/22 for 182 yards 2 TDs 1 INT. Thats not bad considering he was a freshman playing a good auburn team. However I still stick to that one play was horrible. At the same time I can't judge him just on one play alone and still willing to give him another chance. As far as Jefferson is concerned I agree he is over thinking, and also he is being to careful. You really don't hear a quarterback being to careful but in his case that is a fair judgement. I personally believe Jefferson plays his best in a play action and in a I-Formation or Ace Formation when he has time to back up and see recievers better.
i would like to see a set rotation where lee plays 1-2 series 1st half and 1-2 series 2nd half. make it the 3rd series, etc. where each qb knows prior and the team knows prior. seems less "knee-jerk" that way. this would allow jl to "grow" into the role, not putting the entire responsibility of the game in his hands, yet preparing knowing he is getting meaningful snaps. if a situation were to develop that jj goes down then the transition is much smoother
That's your opinion. Lee's only problem was technical ... a problem that can be fixed. Jefferson's problem is he is not a leader .. that is a problem that cannot be fixed ... and tht is why his offense is failing him. Several people note that the receivers are dropping the ball ... true ... but why? It's because they have no confidence in JJ's leadership abilities. If JJ continues to be the full time QB and 3 and outs us every series that starts in our own territory, we are going to lose when we play the big 4 on our roster. And that is real sad, because this team actually has the potential to win the West, and play for the SEC CG. I say do the 2 quarterback thing .. .but don't make it so predictable that everytime JL steps on the field, the Defense knows it is going to be a pass. Mix it up a little.
