My biggest thing about it is, Jefferson needs to KNOW that the job is not his no matter what. Sitting out a couple series here and there in the game would help that. The fire that is supposed to be burning under his arse isn't even at a warm smolder at this point.
pretty much anyone that has read my posts (or maybe nobody reads my posts, who knows) over the past couple of years knows i have been quite critical of jl. however, jj's performance wont cut it if he continues along that path. we have no choice but to give jl some playing time and hope he can redeem himself. im hoping if we do it will also take some pressure off of jj and he can get it together. i am hoping that what little we saw jl last night says he has matured and is finally up to the job. and up to the job doesnt necessarily mean starter. it means coming in when needed and getting the job done. im not a huge fan of the 2 qb system, but it may be our only option this year. damn. i wanted to remove the word option from the english language. anyone got a thesaurus?
Okay, I agree with this. I'm in favor of whatever it will take to wake JJ up. But people are kidding themselves with the delusion that Lee is the answer long term. JJ is our most talented QB and we need to get his head in the same place as his arm. Either way, he's still light year's better than Lee has ever been. That was a terrible game by JJ, his worst as a Tiger. But come on, have we forgotten so soon?
Who is saying that? Neither you nor I have any idea how Lee-the-junior will play. I haven't even called for benching Jefferson. I'm OK with him starting this week. I'm only calling for Lee in the first half for a couple of drives. I just think Jefferson needs a shorter leash--two opening 3-and-outs and we go with something else.
Well, I would recommend the word "choice". However, LSU would simply have Jefferson run the short-side "choice" about 18 yards too deep and it would suck and we'd be right back here.... So option it is...
What i did notice was when lee wasin the huddle he seemed to be more in control..and had some energy (patting guys on the helmet, things like that)....I've been supporting jj for 2 years now...hoping he would prove everyone wrong...and play like he did in the chik-fil-a bowl against gt...but i think he's had enough time...It's time to let lee have a chance...
I think Lee deserves a shot -- whether it's a start or a series, I don't really care. I would rather see 300 yards of passing and an int (not for a touchdown mind you) than 97 yards and 40% completion rate. I think this will send the message to JJ that it's time to step it up. Just like Ridley knew that if he fumbled again, he would lose PT and he held on to the rock. JJ needs to know he's got one cheek on the bench. I may be the only one who believes this, but I think Miles has changed the way he uses his talent and it will be the same for QB. First of all, when did Miles ever make public statements like "we need to get more out of the QB position" in his years at LSU? I don't remember. Second, Miles is finally playing freshmen and rantards have been bashing him for years that he only plays upper classmen. I welcome the change. I fully expected Murphy to get the start in the season opener since he's the senior who has stuck with it through much adversity. I was wrong and glad to see Ridley. Now, it looks like true freshman Blue has passed Murphy on the depth chart. Loston has passed Eugene at safety. If JJ doesn't get it done, JL is the only choice we have and he should and will get his chance. What he does with it is up to him. :geaux:
JJ is not doing the job. Is Lee better? Who knows? But its something that needs to be determined before LSU hits the meat of the schedule. So yes, he needs to play at least half of the game this week.
I am sort of optimistic that Miles finally sees that the light just isn't on with JJ. Lee may not be a superstar but he seems to have more upside than JJ at this time. You don't start him next week. But you gotta give Lee some real pt in the first half. If not, the receivers may refuse to even play.
Well, I'm certainly not saying bench JJ forever or the likes of. I'm just saying when he struggles like he did last night (3/13 37 yards or something at half), then plans should be in the works to sit him down and clear his mind and put the number 2 in for a series or two in the 3rd quarter. That would give them time to get JJ's head back in the game I'd think. And if it doesn't, well..
