Well I think that was Miles' goal last season. Flynn did not throw down field often. Speed at WR busted a number of short throws for long gains or scores. Miles/Crowton want to control the clock with the short passing game and balance it out with the run. Patrick Fisher was a big contributor to our success by changing field position and putting our defense in excellent shape.
Assuming its JL, what I know is basically, he has D1 talent (I gather from Scout, etc.). He red shirted, so he knows the system, basically. With RP out of dodge for the spring, that was good that Hatch and JL got all the reps; they'll need it. Young QB make mistakes, you just hope they are not frequently fatal ones. Now the rest of the team on offense is set. Experienced o-line, RB, receivers. Basically try to run mostly, throw on first down sometimes (I'm not worried about Crowton). We win at least 8 games. If JL can make several big plays against the top teams and avoid fatal mistakes, we will be there at the end, and possibly win. The D will be good, not national champ level, but very good. Both outside LB and both corners to replace, hmmmm.... At least we've recruited well there in recent years. We just don't know about Hatch and JL. I think they'll be good, and we'll be competitive. If they stink, meet Mr. Jefferson. But, the young QB's could surprise to the upside. When you know the job is yours, you want to win and it brings out the best in you. I've predicted us 9-3, with plus or minus a win as possibilities. The west should be interesting this year.
Turns out he acted inappropriately. Too bad it didn't work out, would have been fun to watch. Oh well, goodbye. That being said, best of luck. You're going to need it. Saturday Nights will roll on.
The best quote that I have seen from the Auburn point of view: AU is coming into the season with a true soph QB (got some game time) and a JC transfer. And we are actually excited about that. I, for one, felt RP would have hurt your team at some point during the season. Much better that the RP train wreck happened now. The comparisons between RP and JL should end on one factor. RP is not a better player when he will not do the things it takes to stay on the field.
The quote from JL's Dad says a lot. Sounds like Earl Woods grooming Tiger to be a champion. You have to have the talent to go with it, and it seems JL has got good talent. I agree its much better to get the train wreck over now, rather than in the middle of the season. I think all Tiger fans looked forward to seeing RP display his talent, but its not to be. We need to get over it and move on. Good talent and a great attitude, fostered as JL is a coaches son, may turn out better than undisciplined all world talent. This is something good about college football. Kids coming from high school, and you don't know if they're as good as their press clippings. We haven't seen them play a whole game, just a highlight clip on youtube, and you just have to wait and see what you got. Life is like a box of chocolates... I thought we'd finally win at Auburn this year, before this happened. This drops the game to a pick it contest. I went to read over on an Auburn board, and they think they were favored before playing at home, and definitely favored now. It won't just revolve around our QB, but also unproven LB and corners. I think it will be a great matchup!
