Tommy Hodson didn't win the Heisman either, but he was first team All-SEC all four years as a starter (the only player in LSU history to do that), and he led us to two SEC Championships (as a freshman and a junior). I'm not saying Lee or Jordan will be as great as Hodson, but I'd love see another LSU QB become All-SEC for four years straight and led us two a couple SEC Championships. I'd rather see that than a someone starting as a junior or senior led us to a National Championship. I know it doesn't make sense. I guess the best way to explain it is that its a lot more rare, a lot more special, to have a freshman QB go out and be great right from the start. Granted, it'd be illogical to start freshmen over more experienced upperclassmen, and I wouldn't be shocked to see Hatch leading the team next season. But RP is gone, and the only non-freshman option we have at QB is Hatch, a junior. If we don't play Hatch, then we are going to go with a freshman. I'm just trying to look at it positively.
I would still much rather have my QB watching from the sidelines his first 2 or 3 years. RP was ready for one hell of a season if he could have just stayed out of trouble. Just think what type of seaon JR would have had as a Senior.
I would trade an SEC Champioship for a National Championship any time. We are beyond settling for SEC championships our goals are for NC.
actually, his production didn't decline, he threw for more yards in his final year. his sophmore year was his worst, statistically.
I think CLM would "settle" for a SEC Championship right now for 2008 with a freshman starting QB and a "now-its-officially-a-rebuilding-year" status for his FB Program. The big games are when we're gonna miss RP, that Swamp Stomp likely isn't going to happen this year unless we get some help, and it will take a great game for us to beat Georgia, and we'll likely come up short in any post-season games with these inexperienced QBs. It will be a Baptism in SEC fire for these youngsters.
So you're saying you only want mediocre QBs? I like the 1-2 year starters who produce a :crystal: or those who are so good that they leave a year early to become the #1 overall pick. :tigereye:
I understand your point. But judging by the last two seasons, the SEC trophy and the MNC trophies are now shipped to the same address.
One thing about Lee and Hatch that make me feel confident about next year is that these are almost exactly the same type of QBs Crowton worked with at BYU. Not considered huge prospects but made all the necessary throws and could manage a game similar to Mauck. If teams try to stack the box, Lee has all the short throws to make them pay.
