Seriously? Because he owes it to his teammates and coaches and himself to prepare everyday as if he was the starter. The backup QBs job is to be ready in case the starter can't go, or is ineffective. I wouldn't be shocked if Miles wanted to lean on JL more down the stretch but Lee simply left him no choice with his lack of involvement. I am purely speculating, but I don't think Miles would put a senior in the doghouse without a good reason. Anyway, metter ... I mean better times are ahead.
LOL JJ was great wasn't he ?? You are proud of the performance JJ had right ?. Look for JJ on Sunday next season , the pro scouts saw a whole game of JJ's ability to handle pressure
Yeah absolutely. I was thrilled with it, obviously. Love seeing my alma mater lose in horrible fashion. :rolleye33: Try again. Just because someone thinks Lee may not be completely free from blame does not mean they are in support of the other guy. Like so many of us, I'm relieved to see the both of them go. Too much uncertainty and mental/emotional instability over the past four years.
Are you kidding? I'm not sure what game most of the JJ haters were watching, but this is what I observed: - LSU rushed on 1st and 2nd downs and PASSED only on 3rd and long throughout the game. This is why Bama's defense looked so great; LSU never kept the Bama defense off balance. Bama threw the ball twice as many times on 1st down compared to the Nov. 5 game against LSU! Does anyone really think that Jefferson called the option plays? Even when it continually failed? Really? Worse, they even ran it from the short side of the field! Bama was ready for it this time; they should have been ready because Saban would not allow it to kill them this time. Does anyone remember how we hurt the Bama defense? LSU killed Bama with the power - I! It even worked Monday night in the late 3rd early 4th quarter. Even a youth football coach knows you don't run wide against a speedy defense (see 1984 Miami - Nebraska Orange Bowl game). Folks, the game Monday night was eerily reminiscent of the 1984 Orange Bowl. Nebraska's team was ranked #1 and undefeated. They were one win short of being tagged as one of the greatest collegiate teams of all-time. The BIG difference is that the footballl world was shocked by Miami's ability to score at will and the early shutdown of Nebraska's offense. This is nothing new. Which team has the better game plan AND enthusiasm for that specific GAME DAY! Nothing else PRIOR to championship game day matters. The reason LSU lost is because of LSU's (Miles or the OC) UNWILLINGNESS to adapt for LSU-BAMA II! They should have known that Bama would attack differently...and Bama did. Bama threw the ball almost twice as much compared to LSU-Bama I. Why? Because Saban had nothing to lose! Miles played close to the chest. Why? Because he has EVERYTHING to lose. Bama came into the game ranked #2. That means ABSOLUTLELY NOTHING to the Bama coaches! Why do u think Bama went for the fake field goal! On the other hand, Miles was afraid to take a chance on anything. He was hoping the DEFENSE would make the big play. Other than the blocked FG, the big play never happened. No punt returns or KO returns of significance. No interceptions. No fumble recoveries. Folks, with the offensive philophosy used by LSU Monday night, Brees, Rodgers, or Brady couldn't have done any better. Jefferson looked SCARED. And when your QB looks scared, you pull him. But rest assured, I like Lee as a QB and leader, but the results would not have changed. This brings up another matter. Please don't be surprised IF something happened concerning Lee. Years ago, Buddy Ryan cut the Hall of Famer WR Cris Carter from Philly. He claimed that all Cris Carter did was catch touchdowns (meaning he did nothing else like block, run proper routes, etc.). Well, Cris Carter thanked Buddy years later for not revealing the truth. Buddy had cut Carter to allow him to deal with drug issues, but took a beating in the press because of it. I'm not saying Lee did drugs, I'm just saying, "who the hell knows". But I'm sure something happended. Even Miles understands that he screwed up. He played not to lose which often leads to, well, losing. Got worse news for you, I do hope that next years QB is mobile (not option mobile but Brees-like mobile). Because this is the SEC baby. And if you move like you have lead in your butt, the defenses will be geared up to come after you. So let's lick our wounds, hope we can be champs NEXT YEAR, and let JJ go off into the sunset. Because he did not lose the game; his coaches simply put him in a position to lose.
I agree with most of what u are saying but make no mistake, JJ has been bad for a long time, he never owned up to his poor play, and seemed to be coddled by CLM. The guy is not a good QB. Fact. Since when did being really mobile become the most necessary skill to be a QB? A QB must be able to stay in the pocket and deliver sharp timely passes and read defenses. Period. It's the most cerebral position in ALL of sports. Being able to run is gravy but it is NOT required to be successful or even adequate. I do agree about the playcalling and all that. No argument here but JJ returning to the starting lineup was the downfall of this team. You don't really believe that we couldn't have been successful with any other QB do you?? you don't know that. Dont you realize that? That is the whole point. We will never know. We had a 5th year qb that won games for us and he sat on the sidelines for 60 minutes believe the "it would have been no different" line of reasoning if you want but it is nonsense. How can it not be more obvious? Jefferson never saw the open receivers. He hasn't seen an open receiver since he has been on campus. That pass rush on Monday night called for a QB with a quick release that can make a quick read. We weren't playing the 85 bears. Bama was outstanding but both teams had future NFL players all over the field. This was not david vs Goliath. You are entitled to your opinion of course and I don't mean to throw dirt in your face because I can def understand where you are coming from but no one knows how that game would have turned out with JL. It was a life changing moment for JL and he wasn't even given the chance to seize it. Inexplicable. Everyone on that field, in the stadium or even watching on TV recognized it except for CLM. That is tough for plenty of people to accept and if it's tough for "fans" to accept, just think how hard it is for some young guys that busted their tails all summer.
Wow ... dude .. take off the glasses and go look at the play by play. Series 1 - R - Pass - R Series 2 - R - R - R Series 3 - Pass - r - r - Pass ... then that STUPID WR screen Series 4 - Pass - Pass - R - R - R. I said it before .. the short 6-8 yard pass was open and working! CLM should have scrapped the run and passed the ****e out of the ball.
Good post. There are two possibilities about JL: 1. He did nothing wrong to merit benching. Les just preferred JJ. 2. JL did something of a private nature that was wrong/embarrassing and Les has quietly benched him without saying why, to protect JL's privacy/dignity/reputation. If the answer is question 1--then thats almost a mistake worthy of firing Les. If the answer is question 2--then Les is a man of rare integrity and a player's coach.
That's where the whole Shady's thing is a problem. What could JL have done worse than getting arrested and drawing alot of negative attention on the team? What warranted being exiled to the bench? Had to be something. Just can't imagine Les doing that for no reason
