Yes, and this needs to be said loudly and clearly. I don't believe we win last night with Lee at QB. Or Mett. The results were all about preparation. Alabama was extremely well-prepared. LSU was not.
He called plays this bad, because that is all he had to work with. JJ can't pass. JJ can't stay in the pocket long enough to let a play develop!! Twice that I counted ... before I stopped keeping count, JJ tucked and ran with the ball before the play could develop. As I said a long time ago ... this offense was designed for JJ. Run option. The only pass plays LSU's runs are down field or that stupid WR screen. Very little if any mid level passes designed to instantly give you 8-10 yards. Why you ask??? .. because JJ's windup is so slow that he can't run those types of plays. Those kind of plays are where JLee excelled, because of his quick release ..... back foot and all. Let's just hope that next year, CLM let's Mett be a QB ... let's him throw the ball, so the run game can open up more.
This cannot be stated enough. Saban was out-coached on November 5th. When it counted most, WE were out-coached.
Poor, Poor play calling all night long. No entheusiasim at all from the Offensive players. It looked like they all checked out after the first option play, when JJ refused to sell it to Hightower, pitched early and Hightower made the stop. I think ALL the offensive players at that point knew their game plan would not work and also knew the coaching staff would continue to beat it's head against a brick wall vs make some type of adjustments. Terrible, terrible play calling all night long. I hate to see Kragthorpe deal with Parkinson's, but what about LSU going out and obtaining the services of a real OC in the next few weeks? Coach Stud should have been fired three years ago and certainly should have been shown the door when Crowton left. I think the Studthorpe OC situation is going to end up like dual DC with Peveto a few years ago. I think Les has to make a change and fast. Get someone to go ahead and start working this team through the Spring. Last night was embarassing.
True. And there will be no (public) accounting of the fact that LSU Nation pays the coach & staff literally millions of dollars yearly to do nothing more than prep the team for these games. CLM & the Offensive Coaching staff were asleep at the switch last night. WTF were they doing for 37 days, and how did they collectively believe that we could bring, to Bama, a half dozen half-baked well-known option plays--then expect success? Everything offensive last night was doomed to failure!
The offensive players looked asleep as well. I truly hope Miles and Co. did not really look at the Ga. Southern tape and think LSU would have success with the option, the way GSU did. GSU is an option team and runs it to perfection, anyone would have trouble stopping it. IF that was our model for success Lesticles should be castrated.
The problem was that LSU won the first game. Bama lost. LSU came out and thought they could win the second game by doing the same thing they did in the first game. Bama .. otoh .. changed stategy. LSU was all geared up to stop TR ... while McCarron took them apart with short TE routes. To LSU's credit, when Bama needed the run game to push into the endzone, they couldn't do it. .. hence .. 7 FGs. .. but that was enough to win. It's funny .. we all bitched about Bama seeming to be "entitled" ... but last night, it was LSU who looked like the entitled bunch .. Bama went out and earned the win.
Having a backup QB who doesn't play is useless. If Lee really did something to get him banished to the bench, then he should have been made the 3rd string QB, and Mett should have been promoted to backup. The Tigers were in deep water last night, and needed help.....a spark. Lee or Mett couldn't have done worse, but maybe they would have done better.
