Reminds me of Jim Haslett sticking with Aaron Brooks. Hasbeen even said at one point that Brooks was essentially a fragile ego that needed to be protected. That pulling him would hurt his confidence. Cost the Saints at least one playoff appearance. Pity.
I am going to choose to believe there is something deeply sinister going on the the LM, JJ, and JL triangle. I doubt we will ever know, but this whole scenario defies any type of logic. I am just glad it is over. I wish both young men and the coach the best in the rest of their lives, but I believe there is a deep, dark secret that will remain secret, that explains the 2011 LSU QB situation. Bye-bye.
I am no JJ apologist; not even a fan. But he didn't lose the game. Les Miles did. Jordan Jefferson was exactly the quarterback we all know he is. It is Les Miles fault for expecting him to be more.
Can't run when they stack the box and attack the LOS. They stopped the run while trying to get to the QB. If JJ could have just put 3-4 passes together they would have had to ease up. Even the passes he hit were great catches by the WRs, he was off all night. I saw many open receivers who never saw the football, especially over the middle. He was clearly afraid to try and throw it over the middle.
A few years ago, Haslett finally went on record, saying he didn't pull Brooks specifically because there was so much call from the fans for him to do so. He didn't want to look like he was letting the fans call the shots. I wonder if a similar admission from Les Miles will be coming at any time in our future? I'll answer my own question. No.
It's kind of funny because Lee is the one who usually gets scared/tight in big games and JJ is the one who just kind of goes out there and lets it go (for better or for worse) but you could tell JJ was playing scared last night. I can't say I have seen him play like that before. I've seen him play bad, but not in that way.
I also think there is more to JL not playing than just throwing INT's in first Ala game.............not sure we will ever know but AT LEAST this ship has finally sailed and won't be a factor next year!!! Never felt so bad about being 13-1.
As horrible as Jefferson played I dont think no one can put this one 100%on his shoulders. Lets face it, he wasnt put in a situation to suceed (play calling), he had no help from the o-line, and when it mattered the most in the 4th quarter lsu still chose to ran the ball instead of taking shots down the field (which I think Jarrett Lee should have got his chance at this time). This one is on CLM and the ENTIRE offensive coaching staff. One more note: With this game plan i dont think ANY QB would have had chance to succed in this.
